Franklin is one town from the RI line.... when I was active, I had a RI license.....our office is licensed in RI.... one state is more than enough for me...

I live within 10 miles of 2 other states. I am literally at the point on the US map where Nevada California and Arizona intersect. I have no desire to be licensed in Nevada or California. There's not enough inventory in those local areas to pencil out when I can just refer it out.

I do not. We're closer to the center of our state. If I did, I'd probably get licensed in the other. I know agents who have license in VA or SC. Too far for me.

Our office is licensed in all 4 nearby states... NY, MASS & Jersey. I am only licensed in CT but have options if I needed to list out of state.

I live a mile and a half from another COUNTRY but US can not get a Canadian real estate license. So we branch out in three directions... not east. 

I would have to drive through Canada to get to another state...

That would not be me. I am far more than 50 miles from a state border. I have my hands full with one state license.

Not me, I am only close to Mexico! Even when I lived in MA and was close to RI and NH I was only licensed in MA!

Our company is licensed in MD, WV & PA also with in 50 miles of VA & DC , Personally I just carry a MD license.

Not close enough.  But with AZ and NV having reciprocation now for my license, if I did enough business to justify it I would get a license.  But for now, I have a few people in each state that I'd refer out to.

I live in the geographic center of Washington and almost always referred out any business for neighboring towns... totally different markets.  I'm pretty sure if I lived near a state line I would NOT get licensed in the other state.  But one can never say never.  As usual, it depends.  

Corinne ~ I live within 5 miles of DC and Maryland, but only sell in Virginia.  There is more than enough inventory to work with and effectively know about on this side of the Potomac, though quite a few agents in our area are licensed in multiple jurisdictions.  I prefer to be a master of Northern VA and refer out to DC & MD.  

Not I... I live within a mile of South Carolina and sell actively in both South and North Carolina.

I'm 20 miles from the state line - however that state line is also the an international border so working on both sides of the border maybe possible but not easy to get set up.

I was licensed in Virginia before moving to Maryland.

Many agents in our market are licensed in Maryland, Virginia and Washington, DC.

Me!  Super close to MA but it's still far enough away that I wouldn't begin to "work it" as my territory.

Some California agents who live close to Nevada (lake Tahoe area) have both.  I would venture to guess that many do.  Many Californians are moving to Nevada from Silicon Valley for tax purposes. A

Interesting because your question causes one to consider the distance factor as relevant. Not being close to borders makes inter-state licensing moot for me but I wonder if closer to borders...what my response/action would be?

I'm within just a few miles from the NC/SC border and am definitely licensed in both states - we have a lot of Charlotteans who migrate to SC for the tax break and to get out of the city. 

We do live within fifty miles of the eastern border of The Land of Lincoln but we are not licensed there.  No desire to do so.

I live within that distance to MA and Maine. In MA the regulations are far more and different in NH. I have enough business here that i dont have to sell in MA. But never say never, lots of MA agents are coming up to NH to sell, so maybe I could take over some border towns?

I live about 40 miles from DC and probably about the same from Maryland.  I do not have a license in either place.  Heck, even going inside the Beltway in my own state is a different way of life.  There is plenty to keep me busy outside the Beltway in VA.

I do. 30 minutes to Oregon. I have only thought twice in my 15-year career about getting a license there. Our MLS even crosses over the border, so we sometimes get Oregon inquiries. But not a lot. It's more effective to just refer. -K

Nope... I'm sitting right in the middle of Georgia.  I own property in another state, but doubt I will ever want to be licensed there.  

I live in the NW section of Arkansas.  I have a license in Arkansas, Missouri and Oklahoma.  That's enough... LOL

Corine, I'm less than 5 miles from one state and 45 miles to another state. I do have licenses in both. The Maryland license was just procured, but I've had a WV license since 2007. We do run back and forth across the border frequently. 

I'm about 20 or 25 minutes from the NJ border but I really don't have any interest in being licensed in NJ. And I don't know that area so wouldn't be able to service it properly.

I have lost a few clients, though who were looking in NY and decided to purchase right over the border. When I could, I referred them. (Sometimes they just said, oh, this weekend we saw something in NJ - we know you aren't able to sell there so we called a NJ agent). Oops.

However, I frequently encounter agents from the lands of the frozen chosen who follow their locals to the state of Florida during the snowbird flocking season. It is not uncommon to find 'experts' in Florida real estate who spend 9 months in IL, IA, NY, NH, CA, OH, WI, MI, PA and VA. They seem to be OVERWHELMINGLY from one franchise!
