Hi Eileen! I have cleaned it out in the past and realized that you have to empty the deleted/trash folder before you are able to see the space you freed-up.

Also, if that didn't work, log-out and then log back in and see if it shows the new level of space.

I have used gmail for several years (I filter through it going to my other email accounts). A couple of years ago I got the same notice and since I rarely delete anything from my gmail account, it made sense (for me) to purchase new storage space. I don't remember the exact cost but it was pretty cheap to "upgrade" for more storage space from them. No issues since.

As Debe Maxwell, CRS said, empty the trash.

I have not faced that issue. I delete the unneeded information every day.

I am not having nor have I had this experience.

However, I limit what I give to Big G based on whether I want Big G to use that data to make me a better marketing target or to augment their 'deep learning' initiative.

I am thinking you're talking about FREE Google storage and not computer disk space storage. I'm guessing you have a lot of photos in Google photos and that's taking up your FREE storage space with Google.  You might want to purge out of Google photos in the cloud, which is separate from computer disk space.  Load them onto an external drive.

They tried that with me a few months ago, moved all my photos and video to my KW google acct where I have unlimited storage.

After moving everything it took a few days for google to realize that I had emptied the folders.

All trashed emails remain in temporary storage for 30 days using your allotted space. If you clear that by deleting as many old emails as possible, then you'll see your available space coming back as empty. You may have to log out and re-lo back-in.

I delete regularly, but have never (so far) been asked to pay for storage.

I purchased additional storage space all is well. 

Oh boy, I am sorry that is happening to you.  I don't use gmail for business. I am sorry I cannot help. 

I have a gmail account that I rarely use so I can't be of any help to you.

I think you may have some large attachments or images in your mail somewhere that needs to be exported.

Eileen, are you sure it is not spam or phishing?  It is easy for scammers to send official looking emails stating you have to click on a link and log in to keep your account active.

I have received a couple recently supposively from Apple stating that my iTunes account is locked and I need to log in and change my password.

I have not heard about this.

I only use Gmail for limited functions and delete most daily, including trash. No incidents for me yet! 

It might be worth it to buy additional storage which will give you plenty of time to delete things that you don't really need stored.

I jsut checked I have less than 5g of the 15 they give you. Been using it for well over 10 years now.  Believe me I use it a lot.  I also haven't deleted my trash in such a long time.  

My main storage is close, but I still have some time. I have a secondary G-Suite for another biz account that I pay $5/month for and I have tons of space on. I have had my account since 2013 and haven't gone over, so you  must use it a lot! -K

It has happened to me also.

Sorry, not sure on this one.  I pay annually for additional space.  Can always connect a mail client like Thunderbird and download your gmail to it for safe keeping.

How about if you stop paying so they will contact you? Nothing like changing the CC to another one with little or no $ in it.
