The only advantages that I know of are to the people selling them.

That could vary by state so best to read the fine print in the contract and discuss with your instructor. Most agents here don't do timeshares so I'm not able to give you a specific answer.

I no longer see any advantages of timeshare vacationing

They are great for people who like to vacation, have flexable schedules and the cost is not a factor. If you are retired and like to travel you can exchange your time in one place for time in another place all over the world and in some amazing resorts. The downside is they are next to impossible to sell.

I am sure there are multiple articles on this subject on the web. I know little and care less about time-share ownership.,,, personally and professionally.  At the end of the day, this is the stuff of entire blog posts. I suggest you do some research on your own and write a post about the advantages and disadvantages... you'll learn soooo much more that way.

I know of no advantages and have never dealt with them, buying them or selling them.

Timeshares are like politicians.  They may seem like a good idea but they always disappoint and you can't get rid of them.

Advantages - None for the buyer, a commission for the seller. Disadvantages - endless drain on finances for the buyer, none for the seller.

Trying to sell one to get out of the continuing obligations is a major issue.

There is a very narrow band of people that time share works for Andrew Cooper . Those who I knew that it worked for used the system well. They key is knowing the system. My mom was a happy user because she did a lot of planning in trading weeks with others. She owned a timeshare up North here with her week being in the dead of winter. It was easy for her to put it up for trade and get bargins around the country because no one ever wanted her week when the typical temp here was sub-zero.

Advantage - one has made a commitment to go on vacation which may improve their chances of actually going on an annual vacation and if not they have a cool place to let a friend or family member use. Con - expense and trying to get out of them once one realizes their not using it and they are tired of the financial drain.

The disadvanatage is the yearly maintenance fee. The cost can go u an become more than just renting there, 

Generally speaking it is supposed to be less costly than true ownership because you only buy a fraction of time during a given period of time sharing ownership with others.

The ones that make all the money are the promoters!

I think you know the answers better than most of us who not deal in them.  Financing is the biggest disadvantage I know of.

I own a timeshare and I vacation there yearly. I love it! No investment potential. I could not sell it for what I paid for it over 10 years ago. Just a guaranteed access to a great vacation spot. Also good for trading to go elsewhere.

Could you do the same thing without timeshare ownership? Yes,you could.

It's easier to buy and sell a $50,000 timeshare than a $400,000 sfh.

HUGE disadvantage: They are a bear to get rid of!

Expensive, you can't get the reservation date you were promised, the building gets moldy and the services promised dry up, you are more than married to this usury debt - you can't even file bankruptcy to get rid of them, no one will buy your time share after you did because now it is worth five cents on the dollar you paid, they go bankrupt BUT you still owe the money until the cows come home or you die,    now let me thing of the advantages- they offer a free night and steak meal to hear their high pressure sales pitch, but they took away your driver's license and won't give it back until you sign up
