Property taxes, unless I am smokin' hairballs (possibility) are assessed by COUNTY here. So the more densely populated counties may have different taxes than our huge but rural county.

Several states have 0 state tax. I lived in NV and live in AZ. Our property taxes ARE lower than theirs.

I think our area is quite reasonable. Below are our tax millage rates for the counties in the Charlotte Metro region.

North Carolina has a flat income tax rate (5.499%) - regardless of your income or filing status. *Of note, that was reduced in 2017 from 5.75%!

That sounds like one huge research project.  I know it is NOT California, the Land of Oz. 

Best property tax rate?  Hmmm...

The lowest in the Tampa Bay area but specificcly or PINELLAS COUNTY has a millage rate of 17. What a deal!

Ahh, but this real estate is all located with great big water views with a base market value of 1.1 million and up. One high schoold dropout just bought his bride a 16.4 million dollar, 40,000 SF house as an anniversary present. He invested in ALFs to make his money. At a low 17 mill rate that tax bill is more than my mortgage payment.

Affordable housing, what ever that means, comes with mill rates from 19 to 23.

Sometimes you need to look a buyer right in the eye and say, "The taxes are the taxes." Maybe Arkansas has taxes that will make you happier.

This question can not get a actionable response or even one where confidence exists. For example:

In the state of new york, you will get pillaged and plundered with the LOCAL county millage rate, But it does not end there. On top of that comes a school tax with is included in property taxes of most states/counties even if they are an independent taxing authority.

To get an apples to apples comparison, you need to ask more questions.

Using NY as the poster child for tax naughtiness, my observation is those States that impose an income tax actually have higher taxes for ALL things and it does trickle down to the county. The mentality is to tax their way out of bad decisions. The Democrat way.

Of course the Elephant way is 'die young becuase we have nothing for you."

Several states have no income tax and of course property values will determine the cost of property taxes. Some states that come to mind when I think of low taxes include:

Nevada, no income tax, relatively low property values, low property taxes.

Florida has no income tax and relatively low property costs in some areas, but high property taxes relative to the assessed value.

Texas no income tax. Relatively low property costs, but high property taxes relative to the assessed value.

Try Delaware.

I can tell you it is not Oregon. High property taxes and income tax, but no state sales tax, yet.

Well, here in Texas, we don't have state income tax.  I don't think property tax (percentage wise) is the lowest BUT the price of homes are much more affordable than many other areas such as the Bay Area in California.  

No state income tax in Texas.  Property tax depends on which county you live in and the value of the property.

Georgia is a very affordable state to live in tax wise.  

Massachusetts isn't cheap.... 

In the State of North Dakota our income tax rate is quite low but you have to excape the city to get reasonable property taxes.

Not sure about the combo but my guess would be that what they don't take with one hand they take with another.. Sales Tax, Income Tax, Sin Tax, Property Tax states need revenue so... 

I did not see AZ in any of the top 10 - Best or Worst in the tables for which Carol Williams has provided a link above. Arizona must be somewhere in the middle.

Oregon is very expensive and since we have no sales tax, they make up for it with high income and property taxes.

It is not where I sell real estate so I don't pay a lot of attention.

It varies in Utah but in Washington County, most residential property is taxed at 1% of appraised value but if it is a primary residence, a discount of 45% is given. State income tax, is a flat rate of 4.95%.

We've got the state tax covered at ZERO and there's surely a County I could find that fits the bill Christine.

Property taxes are low here but we have state income tax.

Start with states that have no income tax. Then the real search begins County by County.

I have no clue. And it's not states typically the levy property taxes, but counties and municipalities. It would be an impossible job to figure that all out.

It is fairly common here that property tax of $2-3K a month at 1.25% of sale price will blow most people's mortgage budget.

I know Colorado is pretty low, my buyers always make a comment when showing homes compared to their home state.

Delaware has no sales tax and very low property taxes.

Usually those are not the places with good jobs or where most people want to live.

Follow the corportae migration.

I'd imagine places like Nevada, Oregon, Texas and Florida are good places to investigate.

I can tell you where it is not the best rate: California.

In Florida, we have no income tax, but property taxes vary by county and are not all that low.

Florida we do not have state income tax and the county set taxes are protected by save our homes that cap on assessed values and we have portability to protect older home owners.  So our taxes are more that fair.

Easy answer. The lowest State Income tax is rght here in NH. That would be ZERO, yes, no income or sales tax here in NH. 

Changes by county. Southern VA property taxes are much lower than Northern VA counties. And in most towns and counties, senior citizens can apply for tax relief and pay lower or no taxes.

Alaska has no income tax

No state sales tax but some boroughs do have sales tax and there is a cap at 500.00 so the most sales tax can be is 15 dollars on a home in Kenai borough and 39.25 in Homer city limits. Zero in Anchorage

Property tax for seniors primary home is exempt for the first 300,000 value in our borough. So many seniors pay no property tax

Florida from having worked there.  A
