Sounds like you owe each of these agents a commission, but since they were foolish enough to have shown both of you a home without getting an agreement signed they will have a hard time collecting it.
Pick an agent and since both have procured cause, have one of them pay the other a referral fee.

What Debe Maxwell, CRS said. My question would be why would you have been in such a situation in the first place? What were you hoping to accomplish except for this now insane situation?

That is a horrible plan and horrible thing to do to the agents, one which will most likely get nothing. A husband and wife should use the same agent, they should be up front and shame on the agent as well for not asking and not having you or your husband sign a buyer agent agreement before showing you the 1st home

You and your husband should have talked about that before you started calling different agents to show you properties at different times. When you are licensed you are going to hate when this situation happens to you. -K

Choose one, have him/her pay a referral to the other.
Have you signed buyer agency with either one of them? Or both? Or neither?

Sigh. I'm glad you posted this question so that people can see what not to do.
Hopefully the agents will be able to work something out between them.

Who wrote the contract? If the brokers cannot agree, I see a professional standards hearing in the future. So sad, buyer’s were not honest with the agents from the get go. Not nice or intelligent people

Bob Crane hit the nail on the head. You should have used One agent and just one agent. How both agents got themselves into this situation is another issue that is on them.

Assuming they are from different companies, it's complicated. One may offer the other a referral fee, but you need representation first and foremost.
Which is the better agent? Who does more business, has more experience or a sharper eye for what your needs are? Pick one, discuss your questions and concerns with them and see how they feel about sharing. If they are the best agent, their willingness to share or not shouldn't enter into your decision as to who will best represent your needs.
Using two otherwise unconnected agents is like too many cooks in the kitchen.

Why don't you each have your agent submit a written offer. Then whichever offer the seller accepts and ratifies will be the selling agent and earns the commission.

I don't know why you would work with 2 agents, one working for you and the other for your husband. Imagine if you have a boss and your boss told you and your co worker to work on the same project. Both you and your co-worker are not aware that you are working on the same project. You work very hard but what you don't know it that at the end of the day your boss will decide who gets paid.

This is what happens when the agent asks no questions and does not educate the buyer.

I know this is a hypothetical question for your class. First of all, you and your husband should not have separate agents. Whichever one has a signed exclusive agreement will probably be the one to get paid. If neither do, then pick one. It's not just a matter of dividing the commission. There is a lot of work to do in getting a transaction closed. Having two buyer agents makes it more complicated for communicating with all the necessary parties and less likely to have a smooth transaction. For your own protection, choose ONE agent.
I must say, the fact you have two different agents doesn't speak highly of the communication status of your marriage. Why aren't you looking at homes together with one agent? I question whether buying a house together is a wise idea.
It actually sounds more like a divorce scenario for listing than a buying scenario.

sounds like this couple needs counseling to get on the same page. I guess this is possible but very unlikely to happen. the selling/listing broker has the right to accept one offer and the rest are backup offers if it falls out of escrow. that would be two separate transactions.
