According to your profile, you work at Nordstrom and if the real estate agents you are talking to are customers there, you may be mis-reading what they are saying.
They may be trying to tell you that selling real estate is a much different animal than selling at Nordie's and, while you may be the top sales agent there, it is tough to break into the real estate market as a newbie
Best advice I can give is to ask the next person who says negative things about your market WHY they said that. The answers may surprise you and it's a good idea to cultivate relationships with local REALTORS® while you are in school and begin to learn about your local market.
If it turns out that they are really just being negative, then Barbara Todaro gave you great advice.

There will always be people complaining about the market. In a seller's market you have buyers agent complaining about how hard it is to find a house. In a buyer's market, listing agents complain about homes sitting. You get negative talk from negatve people. A good real estate agent chooses the best part of the market on a given day and talks about that. Such as rates went up, but it spurred buyers to act now and a sharp increase in sales for December when it is usually as dead as the leaves on the ground
