I consider myself a work-in-progress where my goal is constantly improving. At least that's the direction I hope to attain.

Probably... but then again, I always say at the end of the day I can't sell squat except maybe myself. I provide opportunities for clients to buy and help educate them on their decisions... they do the buying and as long as I do my part, I don't need to do any "selling."

I was a nurse, John so, sales was not an inherent trait for me! It's something that I had to be trained to do - classes & experience being the best teacher.

As our market changes, I will always be refining my skills!

Natural born something, but not seller.  Definitely something I've had to work on.

Both.   I do think I have a certain amount of natural skills.  But I've also had to learn other skills such as negotiations.  I would never try to sell something I don't believe if "natural" or not I wouldn't use it that way.  I would say my knowledge and expertise is the biggest factor that created trust with my clients. 

Good question ..... I am going to say that there are some types that get out there & others that don't (wall flower bunch). There is a natural quality to it though.

Natural born seller

Prior to real estate, my only selling experience was selling Girl Scout cookies which sell themselves. However, I had 16 years 'selling learning' to middle school kids.

Practice helps; intelligence to be able to speak spontaneously without inane scripts a big plus.

No. I had to develop the skills.

Even though I've been selling since I was about 9 years old I would still not call myself a "natural" John Bear .

Yes, I am a natural born seller. I don't have to work on it. It is all about building rapor and relationships. My favorite book is, How to Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie. Best book about selling and building the rapor, adding value.. then the sale comes naturally.. for the betterment of all parties. 

Everyone learns to be a great seller by the age of 3 or 4. Some even 2 yrs old. Children are the best salespersons as they are constantly selling their parents to get what they want. And no one is ashamed of children who sell well. 

Somewhere along the path- we are taught that sales is somehow bad ? I don't get that/ why be ashamed or not want to be good at sales when that is what we all do. 

When you are going out to dinner and you and your spouse or significant other decide on where to go - the best one at sales wins. 

I think that most of us have that talent when we are born, many forget though.

And I still a teacher. Every deal - me and customers do our homework before the deal is done. Still a teacher.

I have to work on it. Still learning. 

When I graduated from college, I studiousy avoided sales jobs. Little did I know that the job I took as a bank management trainee would lead me to a life of sales years later.

Nope, definitely not natural. Although, I have not really ever seen what I do in real estate as actually being sales. I don't talk anybody into doing anything, I provide consultation and client service. Still, some of the things that go along with marketing, marketing ourselves, converting leads, etc., in real estate have been learned and honed over the years. -Kasey

I've never considered myself a salesperson.  I would not want to be perceived or viewed as one either.  

I have knowledge, experience, and training that people need. I offer that as a service.  If they like, they hire. 

I do not have to work at being me. If I ever were trying to sell something ... it would not be me ... it would be disingenuine and not authentic.  Not my gig. Not my monkey. Not my circus. I have no clowns to sell. Yet, I do see many clowns selling.

I started my sales career at the age of 6 selling girl scout cookies....I have been selling something every since. My mother said I could sell ice to the Eskimos.  Some of the best sales people I know are not natural sales people they are honest methodical deliberate people. It takes all kinds

I think I had some natural abilities in terms of not being afraid to step out and talk to people. I have certainly hones my genuine sales skills over the years through lots of courses including Floyd Wickmans Sweathogs Course and Ron Willinghams' Authentic Salesperson Course.

I don't think I'd rate myself as a natural born seller. I've had to work at it, but I enjoy it. 

Combination of both  will produce a best sales person. Learning is process which always add the sales skill.

I think you have it or not-I seem to have it, but also have worked hard on getting better with it.

I was born a Seller (as are most of us - ever meet a toddler that couldn't charm you into an imaginary tea party?)  I think too many people have that innate talent squashed out of them at an early age;  I did not; it was embraced and my parents said I could always sell ice to the Eskimo.   Selling is not a dirty word and is a professional trait to be proud of.  Anyone can relearn what once came naturally.
