Are you a real estate agent (or future one)? If yes, the fee is whatever you work out with your client (within your broker guidelines).

Are you a seller or buyer? If yes, the fee is whatever you work out with your agent.

Oh, that's where you have to draw blood and sign over your first born. I did it a few times already! But alas that ship has sailed. I can provide no more offspring.

Commissions are always negotiable, there's no set fee anywhere, and to even discuss numbers is a violation of antitrust laws and you will find very few agents willing to engage.

If you get a good one that knows how to negotiate it may be high, if you get an inexperienced agent that is likely to sell you out it may be fairly low as indicated by their inability to negotiate their own fee.

Before I became an agent I always went with an agent who charged a good fee and knew how to negotiate well.

Btw, if there were a "set fee" for any place the feds would be in there quickly throwing people in jail and issuing huge fines.

Emily, we just sold a house down in the north suburban area of Indianapolis in Hamilton County on the buyer side.  Commissions are negotiable and may vary from brokerage and agent so a consumer or agent outside the MIBOR (Mid Indiana Board Of Realtors®) would certainly want to discuss before listing a house or selling a house outside of MIBOR.

It is identical to every other location in the USA.

Be aware some brokerage business models treat agents as employees and dictate the compensation and even the price points in which an agent can participate. These organizations (one is among the biggest RE franchise) are an aberration to the 'independat' facade presented by the agent industry.

All real estate professional fees are negotiable in accordance the the laws of many states. Of course many parties exist to control those fees and dictate how those fees will be apportioned. And many agents choose to disperse the fees they negotiate to as many as five other parties who may have some remote connection and often no contribution to the transaction.  The FEE negotiated and the NET realized can bring an agent to tears.
