I agree with Michael Jacobs .  Recently it has had a revival of interest, and Caliornia has many lovely examples...  We both happen to like it.  A

Mid-century design has lasted for decades, and while we are seeing new homes built in this fashion which might be viewed as trendy, the classic remains a classic. I love it!!

Every design trend cycles... I have no crystal ball as to how long it will last. Being of an age where I grew up with mid-century design in the 1950's, I have no interest in having it in my house (that was my mother's decor)... but I see millennials liking it because to them it's and fresh. To me, not so much.

I can't believe it is so popular. Years ago we couldn't give some of this furniture & style away & now it's big bucks & style.

It made it back around 50 years later so ????

This fad has come and gone and returned, so if you love it, decorate in that style Lindsay Davis.  I think it depends on what part of the country you live in, if a style will last (back East, I still see alot of Colonial or Cap Cod that has been around for decades, and it is 'typical' for New England).  For me, I like a minimalistic style, though not modern, it's simple, clean and not cluttered nor fancy, though I like a lot of color, so I do not have 'white' anything!

Well since they were built approximately 60-80 years ago, they are still standing, I’d say they are built to last.

As far as the popularity being a fad or tried and true style, trends with come and go, but you will always have a population that want it and a part that does not.

Home again, home again...

All styles are cyclical, and come and go... as the baby-boomers who grew up with mid-century-modern furniture and housing age, and get further from their origins, and become more nostalgic about it... MCM may gain some popularity... but when their children are the buyers, that my change.

Mid Century Modern is definitely not a fad. It has been around long enough to be considered a genuine movement in architecture & design. Some of it's drawbacks are that it's avant garde style is not for everyone & the tall windows can make heating a MCM home a challenge. Some of the pro's are  it's open & airy feel  & how it blurs the lines between outdoors & inside. There's lots of MCM furniture available for sale so it's not going to be hard decorating your MCM home.

It's definitely very appealing to a segment of the market.  It's not a new trend...it's been going on since the 60s.  Here, we have some Frank Lloyd homes and Usonia...and other look alikes, so it's popular with some people...who specifically look for these homes and styles.

the big challenge in my mind with mid century modern is the amount of light.  Many of the homes are dark due to how the windows are.  but, I have also seen some ultra contemporary (and expensive) mid centure modern homes ($1 million +) that are still in FLW style but with lots of windows and light.
