Great question. Twelve years ago when I started, I had a flip-phone and could barely figure out how to text. Clients seem to want less interaction with us and they believe they can figure it out on their own. This has made me emphasize more in my marketing the value I bring as a Realtor besides just a door-unlocker.

I've never been the same REALTOR two years in a row. I'm a better agent this year than last and will be an even better agent next yer. Constant training, reading, implementation of new ideas, tools and techniques. What I believe got me here; always pushing myself to improve.

The world that we live in continues to change, Will Hamm . That includes the business in which we are vested. My business and my daily activities are different now from when I first began as a Realtor. Change is happening constantly.

Yes, everyday something new and we have to keep up.
Love technology. It is easier to communicate with the customers - e-sign, video calls. Love it.
Just got back to the office after "showing" the owners their condo for first time. They bought it without seeing on Action.

You have to change with the changing conditions... adapt to what is going on... actually you need to predict a little bit in the future...as if you react based on what's going on, you'll always be behind...
I think everything goes in cycles (in a circle).... what works today may not work tomorrow, however further down the road, it may start working again.

One no longer can search one's blogs on Google from AR. It was 3 or more blogs with more hits were posted before. Therefore whatever we do today do not amount to anything. No offence. It is time for AR management to disclose what AR can do for us. if spent any efforts getting SEO noticeability.
Yes, we are always looking for another way to get noticed.

The FUNDAMENTALS have not changed at all.
What has changed is the resources available to the practitioner.
For them the question to answer is, "What do I have the most of, TIME or MONEY.
Success can come from using either efficiently.
In this forum of Active Rain, most respondents are running mature businesses and are prone to EXTREME selection bias. For example some will spew..."I never do open houses," while the other side shouts louder, "Door knocking doesn't work."
Both of course are wrong. The newbie needs to know the horse they are going to ride, then ride it well.
My business is always evolving. Not because it needs to but because I bore with what is working and has done so for a long time. Much of what is called change in real estate is nothing more that change driven by agent need for delineation and jumping at the next shiny thing being sold by those who understand the agent mentality. I'm dabbling in new stuff, but the fundamentals never change in the most important occupation on the planet.

I'm doing the opposite, i'm back to old basics: door knocking and direct marketing.

While adapting and being able to shift is hugely important... still... the biggest mistake I see people make and businesses make is they forget what got them to where they are. They stop doing the basics. The basics are what forms your foundation. People forget to work on their foundation. Then wen the rain comes... they are not prepared...

Things are constantly changing, and definitely, our business looks different today than it did 5 years ago, 10 years ago, 15 years ago. And it certainly will look different 5 years, 10 years from now. Always changing and adapting to new innovation and technology. -Kasey
