Michelle

I investigated several local guys $9-$11 a sf. Lot of surface preparation. I got a grant $2/sf from SC H2O District and another $1/sf from the town I live in coverted to drought tolerant. But it is reversible to real grass per my design. Mine almost paid for itself with the 2 grants.  You can also ask

your carpet guys some will do it right and not charge as much as these specialists.  My objection is the feel and it is hot to stand on it barefoot.

I need to check what we are using in Florida for a border of a concrete patio. It does look like real grass. I will check with the contractor.

The never ending battle with grubs, web-worm and mole crickets gives one purpose to get out of bed every morning.

So I stick with St Augustine.

K9Grass (antimicrobial protection and flow-through backing) however, is what appears most often in the Tampa Bay, FL area.

I have not, we just bought an artificial Christmas Tree after be anti them for 50 years.  We are so happy it is unbelievable.  No fire danger, no mess, peace of mind.  Artificial Grass might take many years for us to try.

We have plentiful source of water in central Washington so no need for artificial turf here.

In town we have an owner who installed a permeable artificial turf on their backyard which boarders the river which flows through town.  They did this due to the grass in their backyard dying due to over use.  However, many people complained to the city about this and the owners were given orders to remove the turf.  They are fighting it.

We see them on playing fields but not on in yards of homes in our area.

We have enough rain for green grass most of the time.

I've tried, but it is just too darned expensive.  The cheapo stuff is going for 83 cents a sqft.  Installation is a serious process.  I'm looking at some to just throw down under a gazebo in my back yard and it is looking to be a bit cost prohibitive.

Interesting... I and everyone around me all have "real grass" (yard type...:)

I'm not aware that I have seen it anywhere I have been... seems it would be an interesting thing to look into... but I don't know if I want to frolic on the fake stuff... the real grass is so smooth, smells good, and is sexy to frolic on/in when at a nice healthy green 4 inch height... :)

I have no first-hand experience with this.  Some of my friends and clients have ... and they regretted not looking more deeply into the toxins in what they choose ... and how the toxins pollute the environment.

I see it daily here in San Diego, it's very popular and starting to look more realistic as the technology improves. But alas, I live in a townhome and have no need for grass at all, so I'm at a loss for what "systems" my clients have purchased and generally they do that without consulting me for a referral-one of the few trades I'm never asked to refer.

Michelle,

I have seen very little of it here.  Mostly around gas stations and they do not look good to my eyes. Most people opt out for Xeriscape.  Those who have big estates have lawns, because they have Artesian wells, they draw on.

While some people do install the fake grass for that year round green look, it can get very hot and burn the bottom of bare feet when in full sun. My husband has installed it in the past and it can look fantastic if done correctly. Need to consider quality when purchasing.
