Water is gold. Michael Burry, the guy who made all the money shorting the market (Christian Bale's character in The Big Short) got out of investment banking and put all of his money into water.
As brilliant as that guy is, that should terrify everybody.

I've never once had to deal with water rights, nor do I know anyone who has.  I'm glad this got settled for your state though.

Being a major agricultural area, water rights are critical here.  I'm sorry for the Appalachicola oyster lovers, though. 

Our rivers are full, the dnr makes sure that all are aware that they own everything in our waters.

As you might guess, being in a desert region, water rights are a big deal here in AZ. Water law in Arizona is very complicated since we have laws and programs that are Federal, Regional and State based on the procurement and management of water from several major watersheds.

Like Florida, we are downstream from several other states that have access to the water before it gets to AZ. I don't know all the particulars, but I can tell you that it keeps our lawyers busy.

The only time I have ever had to deal with water at my level is when someone wants to dig a new well or attach to an existing well for a new home. Which is becoming increasingly more complicated.

I remember once back in about 2004 the City of Fountain Hills had a moratorium on development placed until they could identify new water rights for some land they wanted to annex in their area. So someone is watching.

Maine, lucky not to be dependent on whether another state slurps up too much water. Have a son in Colorado where the levels of the river, who taps into the supply can affect the recreational economy and more. More worried in Maine about a timber cutting operation somewhere in the watershed of a lake, pond, river or stream though and protect the water quality with riparian buffers, plunge pools, erosion control for non point source pollution.

We do not have that issue here in NH where clean water is plentiful. 

I live near a private lake.

It is a huge problem in our legislature and they seem to keep messing it up more!

Northern California and Southern California have been fighting over water for many years.

Here I thought you were one of those Utah Blue Heads asking a stupid question. Must have oysters so go to the Supreme Court for help.

Anybody who comes agasint a fine oyster....is not right

No impact here but the developments continue to be built without the water being planned so prices continue rising and a potential problem could occur.

On the wet (west) side of Washington it's not a common issue. On the east side where it's much dryer, it can be more common.  Nothing as major as you describe though. 

Likely in more ways that I am even aware of.  Toxic wastes. Fracking water used on organic foods. Overall pollution.  Floride in drinking water.

When I first read the question, Fred, I thought this would be a parody of the Utah students' questions! I can never understand why it takes 40 years to resolve something like this. I'm sure Florida is pleased.
