Highly doubtful.  Materials, labor, land and permits will cost you a small fortune.

Here in Charlotte, 5 years ago, that wasn't possible! It all depends upon the cost of supplies and labor in your area.

I am sure there is a brownfield somewhere that could be purchased for next to nothing. Materials could be stolen from other homes in progress. With the crackdown in illegal residents, your labor costs are probably going to be the tough variable in this equation.

I would have said Wakulla County (south of Tallahassee), but with the State making it almost impossible to get a septic tank permit there, not likely.  The cost to hook-up to central sewer line can hit $10K.

Other rural counties like Jefferson and Taylor, maybe, because land is cheap.  But finding sub-contractors, and getting materials delivered, will make it tough.

Maybe a pre-fab or modular house installed on cheap land.  But again, the delivery cost is a wallet buster.

Take out the cost of the land, and maybe you could pull it off.

not today in my area.... a stick built home for $80/s.f. dates back to the mid 1990's.... and that's building just to code...code is nothing special!!! it's bare bones....finishes that are bottom of the line boxed cabinets, no finishwork around windows, minimal allowances for flooring, lighting and appliances....apt. type products!!
