There is a demand for single story living in my area as well as multi-level properties too---it makes the world go 'round. 

I'm definitely being tasked by 65+ clients with single family homes.

And prices did spike for almost 7 years. But, it's correction time.

I don't know where you live Tony but single level homes in our area go quicker and for more money. New home subdivisions, if they could do it, would have as the majority single level homes. 

We have always had a shortage of one story homes in my market and they always sell quickly with or without baby boomers and sell for more on a per square foot basis than two story homes. I'm an early baby boomer (born before 1950) and I live in a 2-story home and have no intention of downsizing or looking only for a one-story for a long time.

I could sell all the one story ranchers available. At this time I am asking for these homes for specific buyers.

They are in huge demand here. Can’t seem to keep enough on the market. Another issue is the younger buyers are looking and demanding them too.

Here in the Phoenix area single story homes are in great demand. Most people, even the younger buyers prefer single stories. Two stories only in demand by those that need large square footage at a lower price,

There is a very high demand here in Florida for one story, or must have an elevator. 

I'll take two (one in California and one in Hawaii) one story homes for my retirement please!

One story homes are in demand. Not building enough of them in our market. Land to build on is too expensive. Builders would rather build two story homes on small lots to maximize profit. New townhomes are about $1Mil. Nice one story 3 bedroom in my neighborhood just sold quickly for $1,125,000.

Oh, if only we had more of them here in Charlotte - they are in HIGH demand here!

I have not yet even seen a 2000 sf 1 story town or attached newer home. Most are tree houses-3 stories detached no yard faked SFH.

one story homes (ranch style) will always be in demand.... builders do not build them anymore...they're too expensive to build.... all foundation and roof system...and it's cheaper to go up than to go out...

There is a great demand in Florida for single level living.

Unfortunately, the available inventory is so low the result is a statistically small number. The boomer prefer single level. The Milli prefer single level. New families prefer single level. Everyone PREFERS single level but their economics compel the purchase of a townhouse.

I did not get to read that prediction, but I do see many boomers looking for more ranch style homes. Who wants to climb stairs at our age

There has been a noticeable increase in 1 levels, one levels with lofts, and 1 levels on full basements in this area. Even on 2-3 story homes, interest has increased in main level master bedrooms, wider doorways, less steps, and conveniences for elderly and handicapped. I've even seen wider garages to allow for wheelchairs to get out of their vehicles and into their home.

Hm, I've been showing a lot of 2 story homes and no one complained.

We are seeing more ranch (one-story) homes being built, some entire communities are all ranches.

Builders make more money off 2 stories.

That continues to be the preference in our markets

They've settled for one floor living 

 Older buyers still prefer ranches; no stairs.

Seniors are looking for those homes and we have a shortage of them.

I live in a mountain area, we have very few houses that are one story and yes, they are in demand always.

they still remain coveted

In my area they are still wanted but not to the amount that I had hoped. I still have the trend stuck in my mind but it seems 'I'm it'.

There is demand for single story in my area.  There is demand for more housing - period.  We still lack inventory driving prices higher and higher. 

They go very quickly here as well!

Here in NH there was a massive build up of 1 story homes in over 55 communities. They all sold out quick and not sure where or when the stauration point will hit

They are in as much demand as two story homes. Land costs have caused builders to go up to remain competitive.
