This really stinks. How can the guy be punished for lost revenue from all those sites?

I use the Yoast SEO plugin on my WordPress website and my search rankings did not drop with the new version. Google also changed their ranking algorithm around the same time. I subscribe to emails from Yoast and read their updates.
I do my own tech/SEO support and check the Google Search Console and Slimstat Analytics every day to look for trends, problems and ideas. I have the top search position in my market due to my continuing education in SEO and continuous SEO improvement of my website and blog.
When new versions of WP plugins are released, I read the change log description and support forum. If it is a critical security update, I install it quickly for protection. If it is a bug fix, enhancement or new feature, I will wait and let other users install it first and test it in case there is a new bug. After several days, if there are no complaints from users in the support forum, then I will install the new version.

No. I use All-in-One. Yoast has had some issues for the last couple years, especially with their post calculator.

Peter,
We don't care about our rankings, what we are interested in the bottom line, and we have no complaints on that front. A

Used Yoast in the past, heard about the issues they have been having with the latest "bug". They put out some information on their site here. Glad we weren't affected specifically, but I'm glad to hear they resolved the issue.

It seems that this article has blown things out of proportion...based on other articles I've read. But, no I wasn't impacted and search engine traffic has been increasing. I did, however, change the setting.

Yoast seo plugin versions 7.0 and 7.2 may have changed your setting for Media Attachments to No. It should be set to Yes. Yoast provides a link for easy fix. ( Search Index Purge plugin ) https://wordpress.org/plugins/yoast-seo-search-index-purge/

I'll be hiring an SEO helper soon, I do not track SEO as I'm not paid to, I do track real estate trends in my market and get paid well to.
