I'm sure it's somewhere in CA.  Employers have to pay more to cope with the cost of living. 

I used to live in Northern CA and many of my family members still live in Silicon Valley.  When I left my one bedroom apartment in 2000, the property manager was going to rent it for $1900 a month.  Here in Dallas Metro, that's the cost of a monhtly mortgage for a nice home today!  Now that I say that, I'm seeing many relocators from California to Dallas.  I don't blame them for moving, a similar home here costs about 1/3 there, and we have tons of good schools.  We don't have to fight for homes in good schools at the same rate as in CA.  I understand the salary here isn't as high but it's definitely not 1/3 of CA.  It's probably about 10% less.

Of course it is. I spent much time in Los Altos when I lived up in the Bay Area. It's a nice escape from the grid there and Los Gatos too.

I do not know John Juarez but I know when I lived in the little town of Underwood ND (population less than 1,000) it ranked very high.  Most of the residents worked for either the coal mine or the power plant and both employers pay far above typical union scale. That was almost 20 years ago and I think the average income was over $100,000 a year back then.

I would imagine it is where so many high tech corporate executives, surgeons, etc. live.  Cisco's CEO lived there years ago.  I do not know if he still does.  That means it is not only in California but right here in Silicon Valley.

The data is way dated.  Last quarter sales data say otherwise: 

1. Los Altos Hills-$2.45M, a short sale, highest $10.M Median is $4.85M

2. Atherton-$3.5M to $23M, median is $6.65M

3. North in Hillsborough-2.8M to 13.7M with median being $4.55M
