I used to use the hyper-local feature. I rarely do these days. I do not believe it makes a difference. However, I am not the authority on that.
Do I use Tags? Yes. Absolutely.

I use both but not sure how much either helps bring eyes to my posts. I will continue to do both because I know it won't hurt.

I never quite understood the purpose of hyper-local and still am not sure I need to use it. Is there a place in AR that would train me on this feature?

No longer use the hyper-local with subdivisions. I feel that it might limit the reach if G were to index it. I really haven't thought about it in years David.
You are like a data miner David finding all this stuff that no longer works lol.

I use them. Don't know if they add anything since I have no way to measure. Makes sense to use the, I think.

Yes, the Hyper-Local feature does work.
If you only post to AR your post will end up on
https://activerain.com/bloghome
Which is where all posts go.
But if you choose Hyper Local it will also be listed on a local page. exp:
https://activerain.com/states/AZ/counties/Maricopa%20County
Some followers only want to see the Local pages, so if you want your post to end up on those local pages then choose Hyper-Local. By the way, you will have a ranking on the local page. so if you want to be a neighborhood expert you should try for the #1 position.

David,
I am not sure the hyperlocal function is working on AR. It was not at one point, and we make the best of it. A

I use both - whether they are working now or not, you never know when system changes may boost them! So, it takes about 2 seconds to do, why not?! LOL

I do the drill-down simply because I am a creature of habit and I tag them because that only takes a few seconds. Does it help? I doubt it but it does not hurt either.
The more important reason to write hyper-local content is the ability to rank for the long-tail keywords used. In my experience, you will see less traffic on those posts but the quality of the prospects is better because they are often closer to buying/selling a home.

David Martin (703) 585-4687 - I believe it is working for me, at least! Some of my posts show up on Google Page #1 - just becuse I used certain keywords.
And I am not the expert at this, so please don't ask me why and how of this... lol!

David ~ I do both, though not sure how effective the Hyper Local is... if at all.
365,664
I use both, depending on what I am blogging about. I don't rely on AR as my primary blog as I do not know what google thinks about AR blogs. I use AR more for communicating information to the AR community.

Hyper local IS important.
But NOT the hyper local feature on AR.
Put it in the title, repeat multiple times in the 1st paragraph. link to authority sources, include that video, even ratings and use the tags and of course, buying traffic doesn't hurt since time may not be on your side.
3,416,038
It used to work great, however AR has done away with the local pages. I do like to include a location when i write about local events

Tags always, hyperlocal for listings and market reports and some localism posts. Do they "pay off." I have no idea. But I figure it can't hurt.
