Technically no.  In practice, yes.  Many MLSs will require you to become a "realtor" to access their system as they are owned by the local "association of realtors."  In California, most are like that even though a 1976 court case makes it illegal.

If your broker is a member I am sure that they will require you to.

In our state if an agent is not a member then the broker will be paying a penalty fee nearly equal to the amount of the dues.

If your local Board is an NAR member then each office and their agents are required to join as well. You can read the bylaws for the NAR to get answers to any questions you may have.

In our area one needs to search MLS must pay NAR membership. But in CA it is not required and I am not sure how these stay at home mom and pop brokers handle that trivial question...... Same with Supra lock box.... NAR got you there....
