I suspect it will be a few years before we see the widespead deployment of 5G. By then you should be ready for a new phone.

With the Iphones, hot spots are built in. No need to upgrade and no need for a seperate hot spot. Ready for the 5G but some rural areas are still stuck in 3G

It's less about the device and more about what is available where you are at, many rural areas we work at still do not have 3 or 4g.

I'm getting ready to get an S9.  I'll buy it once there's a special attractive enough for me to pull the trigger. 

I'm not going to worry about 5G and I don't think you should, either.  Enjoy your new phone and stop reading about the latest and greatest.  It'll drive you nuts.

My phone is just few months old, so it should adjust I guess.

I am not even at speed with '4G', Bob "RealMan" Timm.

Have not given it any thought. Will ask T-Mobile about it the next time I'm in one of their stores.

No need here.  The adjacent market to me will likely get it in the first or second wave of deployments (Los Angeles County).  They had 4G/LTE over a year before Ventura County did.  Personally, to paraphrase Joseph Domino 480-390-6011, it would need to be in all the places I go to and be reliable.  By that time, I'll probably be ready to upgrade my phone to one that supports it.

Unless there is a compelling reason to receive real time data..... The 5 G which is 1000 times faster than your 3 G will blow your mind. Actually the driving force is the Chinese Huawei and Trump blocked the sale through ATT dealership to allow Apple to get caught up. Was travelling overseas every country uses Huawei or Samsung.  Reason is simple, iPhone is overpriced by a large margin.  May be Trump will bark at Aapl's monopoly over US smart iPhone overcharging consumers. Not sure why Googl phone is not popular. 

Probably won't NEED to update anything right away.  I will probably get a new phone sometime in the next year and maybe update my hotspot at the same time.

I'm not so sure 5G is coming as fast as they hope it will. It's already been 2 years since the big push for it.

And if you wait a few more months after the 5G debut, you will be ready for the 6G. They just keep coming. My son has a 4G TV and very little programming to support it. Nice picture though!

I think as the websites become more and more complex faster speeds for phones as well as other Internet devices will become necessary.. I don't have any plans to rush out and buy this shiny object just yet though Bob "RealMan" Timm 

I will not upgrade for some time

I'm not sure if 5G will be available in my area anytime soon.  We still have very spotty 4G coverage.

I haven't even gotten to the "cloud"  yet!

I got a new phone and iPad last year. Gave up the hotspot through Verizon a couple of years ago and purely use my phone and iPad hotspots if I need them. I won't upgrade anything but maybe a laptop this year.
