Right place. Right time. Right topic. Right writing. And a drunk feature fairy adds randomness to the process.

Nah you don't want to sleep with any of those guys. Trust me! LOL
Seriously, dead chicken, cigar, rum, cauldron, full moon all contribute to a successful featured post.
Okay okay. There's no metric.
Write stuff of value.
That way, whether it's featured or not, people will enjoy it.

How to get "featured" is a perennial question asked by lots of non-blue-men people.
The special sauce has never been well determined. I have written posts that I've spent hours on, that I think are freakin' brilliant with graphs, charts, clipart and deserve a feature, and they are ignored and find their way to basement storage quickly.
And then I've had casual 1-paragraph posts that I've written as I run out the door, as a lark, and suddenly my AR account blows-up with comments and a featured star. Go figure.
I think Bill Spear's conjecture about Drunk Feature Faeries is about as close as any.

You have to write interesting content that happens to get in front of the feature fairies at the right moment. There is no way to guarantee a featured post, but if you continuously write information that will help other real estate professionals, that highlights something new or something old in a unique way, or that is otherwise of interest, you might get one.
You might want to start by writing for some of the contests.
And of course, you can't post anonymously to be considered. Well, actually, I don't know if that's true. What I can say, is I've never seen an anonymous writer get featured.

As far as I can tell, for the most part, you have the best chance of getting Featured if you write something that is of benefit to the general membership. Something that is educational and may help the members work more effectively and increase their business... or improve life in some way. Writing about listings or your area isn't going to do it.
I started the Second Chance Saturday series to let members nominate blogposts that maybe should have been Featured, but weren't. If you want your blog or someone else's Featured, let me know. I don't Feature political posts of any kind or listings or general information about a specific area. Otherwise I'm pretty liberal.

Ni idea, but I do get them sometimes. However sometimes you miss and a simlar post gets featured. Just be consistent in your posting and try to post things which are useful for everyone on AR, or educational, or part of a contest.

Keep it relevant to the times and answer questions that people are wondering about.
In a sellers market, write about how buyers can win multiple offers.
In a buyers market, write how sellers can make their home stand out and sell faster.
Those are just two examples. Whatever the hot topic of the day is, be the one with the solution.
Keep the writing style easy to read. We're not going for the Pulitzer Prize.
300 to 400 words suffice, sometimes 500.

Post regularly. Post relevant information. Make sure your posts are in a clean format (easy to read, good font size/font colors and layout), with photos or images.
You will get featured, in time.

It has to be content that AR's staff finds feature worthy. My features were mostly about AR itself.
