Great question, Paul Weese! Content with photographs (think "infographics") seem to be a big hit for us (capturing both people's attention and more clicks/hits). - Tim

Local gets more hits, BY FAR!
'Fun' or industry posts (agent-to-agent) get more comments, but far less traffic.

There are many things that influence web traffic.
You identify ONLY content as the option to consider to create traffic without making clear the type of traffic you want.
The highest trafficked blogs, from my experience, are directly related to the challenges people face, but only if the writer also reveal vulnerability. (How to do a TED talk is an exceptional tutorial in writing blogs)
Other great blogs will answer the 'What's in it for me?" starter. I would key on what the readeer can SEE as the hook.
Every citizen faces five important decision they must make every year. This is the fabric of which New Years Resolutions are made. You have a 20% chance of a REAL CONNECTION by blogging about any one of these five. Lead with the question and the 'What's in it for me?" will take care of itself.
Finally, the best traffic must be considered in the context of the highway you choose to travel. Populations, and the analysis for those in Facebook, Pintrest and those USing Google must be considered separately. Using the same 'bait' for distinctly different fishes seldom works well.
IN closing, the blog post that reveals your voice will garner the most loyalty. Take a look at my most recent question for more details.

it varies for me. I've some some listings get fabulous traffice, consistantly had neighborhood posts get great traffic. Also some local events have done well and some local informational posts.

The kind that saves time and money. More details, more links to drill down into a topic. Embed local community videos and help that outside buyer be in your hometown right now to feel, hear, see the flavor.

I've been doing "top 10 neighborhoods in XYZ", or "top 5 reasons your home isn't selling in XYZ". Anything along those lines seems to be working very well. I boost the blog posts on social media, and as long as there's a clickable link to my website with lead capture it works great!
