So people looking specifically for those topics can search by hashtag and topic.

The technical term, hashtag... is a way for people to search for articles or postings. Such as a simple "#I sell Manchester condos", will help me by found by anyone searching those terms.

Pound sign, number sign, hashtag.  Used in social media for categorization of posts.  Allegedly people search on those tags.  Not so much on Facebook anymore, more for Instagram and other image sites.

  For your business, you could add tags like #YourCityRealEstate or #realestate or #mortgage.

Typically it's the button on my phone that I press when I'm finished typing in my info.

I dont.

#'s bring attention to what you are saying and on Twitter it is searchable when you include the words after it.
