I downloaded a 2014 version of Windows Live Essentials from Major Geeks dot com, but it won't install.   File Hippo has nothing.   Microsoft Store has some knock-offs with terrible reviews.

      Where else to look?

I too recommend Filmora, have heard good things about it. I use Final Cut Pro X, so don't have first hand knowledge.

Hi Fred Griffin you can make Windows Movie Maker work on Win 10. I was able to make it work. You will have to do some internet searches on the topic. There are a lot of "how to" posts out there, you can also check YouTube.

BUT, if you want a really good program that will make all kinds of video, try checking out a program called Wondershare Filmora.  It will cost you $39 annual subscription ($59 lifetime) but I think it is worth it.

I grew frustrated with Win Movie Maker and popped for Filmora. It is easy to use and can create shows in any format.

You can download a free copy and trial it before you buy.

Probably not worth the money, dig out your old pc and make your movies on Win Movie Maker.

Or you could make them directly on Youtube.

I have not done video since I got my Mac many years ago because I never could figure out iMovie. I was interested in your question and have been reading about various available software. Thought you might look at a few other options. This from a 'professional review' of Filmora:

Filmora, or More?

Wondershare Filmora sports an eye-soothing interface and offers lots of nifty effects, text tools, and filters along with basic video cutting and good output options. Its single-purpose tools are less useful than the full editor mode, but rendering speed is not at all shabby. Users who just want to do some basic cutting and editing will should be fine with Filmora, but those who really dig into various effects like denoise and stabilization will wish they'd spent a bit more for more advanced software. The software is reasonably priced, but I still recommend our slightly more expensive Editors' Choices, PowerDirector and VideoStudio, because of their fuller toolsets, better effects, and more extensive support for new techniques and formats.

Fred Griffin although I still use Windows Movie Maker much of the time I've gotten to like using the YouTube editing process. It's free and you don't have to publish your movie if you don't want to but once you edit it you can download it and use it how ever you want. I just used it tonight on my most recent post.

No sure of knock off but Sony Vegas, Cyberlink Power Director, etc would be a good investment Fred Griffin for video and audio editing.

I use Filmora. It is easy to use...and I might say. a bit awesome.

The direct to SM feature seems like a great feature, but it simply takes to long so I skip that and self post to YT and SM.

I can't help but believe half of the stuff on NetFlix is using Filmora for the post.

Often overlooked is this very stong feature of Wondershare's Filmora is the built in sound mixer. You can detach audio, support multimple sound tracks, voice over, sound effects and your very own audio files.

Sound is more imporant than image quality.
