I don't recruit or hire any more, but what I would want if I did was someone poised and graceful under pressure, preferably experienced, but not a know it all (that is my job!).
Someone with a strong work ethic and great tech skills, who did not need a lot of handholding. Formally educated. 

When I had a team it was all of the above.

Intelligence and attitude.

4. Follows instructions

Motivation, Fred. When I was hiring, I gave them a task before our first appointment - bring me your sphere list of 100 (emails, phone numbers, birthdays, anniversaries and home address). I don't keep it - I just want to see it!

You'd be surprised at how few actually do that. If they don't they didn't hang their license with me!

If they did and they have a great attitude and impeccable ethics, they were invited to join us.

From another side of the table, as an agent: a broker personality is the most important for me, since we are going to be together awhile, almost like a marriage:) 

Personality and Character can't be taught, so that's #1.

Competence is 1A.

They have to be willing to follow Buffini & Company systems and invest in to the CRM is #2.

All else I can teach and have over the years. 

People who can dialog or explore using conversation or exchange qualify

I like to bring on agents that have been in real estate for a months, now realize how hard the business is and have been humbled. Once I determine they have been humbled, I look for a hard worker, basic sales skills, self motivated, tech savvy, and someone teachable. Finally, I need to know that I can get along with them. 

Even with my vetting several have slipped through the cracks over the years. Luckily for me, I recognized rather quickly and booted them before they did too much damage. 

Knowledge and reputation in the business.

When I had a Team it was not always experience because if I trained them I knew they would understand the "whys" of what we do ... but Honesty, Integrity, ability to be a Team Player, Hardworking (working smarter), abilty to follow instructions, and to just get the job done ... return phone calls!

Attitude is everything...the rest can be taught.

I never wanted an agent that had been in the biz more than 4 years...those were the worst....untrainable because they thought they knew it all...

Yes, they knew it all wrong...

I liked agents in biz about 2 years...enough to know that life in RE is tough and can recognize when they have it good.  Get them early enough to train them properly.

Out here I think they just want seat warmers and a monthly check. Personally I think experience is one important attribute. Unless an office has a good mentorship program, new agents can take up a lot of someone's time. 

I would look for someone who is honest and ethical, pleasant and personable,  who dressees and projects themselves in a professinal manner, works well under pressure, who has experience and is knowledgable and has a great work ethic.

Someone who knows what doing the right thing is and never questions or waivers from it. Someone who keeps their clients best interest at heart, no matter what. Someone who gets the job done, no excuses. Someone who shows up on time, no excuses. Someone that treats others with dignity, honor, and respect. An honest person willing to take ownership and be 100% accountable and responsible for their self.  Should I continue? 

I look for attitude, aptitude and commitment. I can teach everything else.

a hunger for education and making money..... plus the size of their SOI....who they know.... 

I'm doing recruiting for my office. I have had over a half dozen inquiries late last week & more come in this weekend for Monday. I just hired a new candidate on Friday as well. 

I look for someone licensed who is motivated to work for new business. I am not as keen on those who look for me to provide them with the new business, I like go-getters. 

I like people who know how to listen & follow through. 

I enjoy recruiting & at my company you don't have to be the broker to recruit people. There's of course a mutual benefit. 

Fred Griffin When I had my company I liked newbies. They were easier to train than retrain an experienced agent.

Someone with experience.  It's very unlikely that we'd hire a greenhorn.

A willingness to work, neat appearance, ability to commuciate, knowledge of the area and someone who listens, not just speaks. 

Sales experience.

I want a clump of clay.

A clump that has endured hardship and disappointment.

A piece of clay with color and texture that begs for the skilled hand to create the masterpiece.

A person who has shown the ability to commit and persist until they achieved what was necessary to resolve the challenge.

Then it us up to me to find the correct role this one fills on the team. That is where the genius type test comes into play.

I do enjoy being by myself, but if I were to bring on an agent, they would be seasoned and a great personality.

We are primarily hiring in my property managment company and some expertise is important but we want someone who is more interested in a bonus structure that rewards them versus guaranteed income.
