I talk to appraisers practically every week. I have favors built up with a few of them, and if I need insights, I can just pick up the phone. Some are an excellent source of client referrals.
To answer your question, there are often backstories in a transaction that one could not possibly know via just reading the MLS listing. As long as it doesn't violate a confidentiality, there's no reason to withhold info from an appraiser. Especially if it's someone I have a relationship with.

I am always happy to have a discussion with an appraiser. I've found that what goes around comes around. And they've often been helpful to me when I needed advice on pricing because they remembered that I helped them.

I'm always happy to chat with appraisers who start the conversation.  I find that there's always something for us to both learn.  Usually the answer lies in multiple offers or a very unique buyer need and they just need confirmation.

I give them the facts- just let them know if it was a short sale or had a seller's concession in the price. I don't support or defend #'s, they are what they are.

I speak to several appraisers a month and glad to do so. Besides you never know when you will need their help.

As for confidentiality, that is not concern to me. The appraiser is mainly interested in the condition, improvements, upgrades, and whether or not there were other concessions paid by the seller. I am rarely asked about motivation but if I were I would tell them IF I thought is was relevant.

I always go into detail.  Like Inna Ivchenko said, Karma.  I'm helping another agent get their price for their clients (my homes often set sales price records because of condition) and I figure in the future they may have a home that helps me get my seller's price.

I've also had calls from agents asking for details and I've also called agents and asked for details.  Takes a couple minutes and helps everyone out.  I have no problems with that.

Yes, of course. Any Agent that does not provide common courtsey to others in our Industry are not in the right Business. The Appraiser called you for a reason, not just to chit chat. One day you may need some understanding on a subject and when you reach out to others in your Industry, they should not ignore you. If we, as Professionals can not or do not speak with each other about OUR local markets & business to help each other once in a while, then maybe each of us needs some refresher training in manners and common courtsey.
