lol, there was a lady that I worked with eons ago before real estate. She called everyone 'honey'. It bothered me all those years ago & it still bugs me. I find it grating. She would call men 'honey' also.

I think that she couldn't remember anyone's name lol.

    Not other agents, but every other woman does.  Waitresses, cashiers, the office girl for the home inspector.  Even the nurse at the VA clinic calls me hon or sugar pie.

It depends. There is one agent who is such a bulldozing clueless bully that says HONEY, HONEY, HONEY at the top of her lungs interrupting you when you try to talk.
I just let her go on until she figures out she doesn't know what the hell she's talking about. If people want to say sweet things to me, and it's not intended to be condescending or overly suggestive, they can call me honey sweetie baby whatever. Just get the deal done.

When I use those words, my motives are pure plus I am selective. Today I am sorry to say that many set-up a pounce with these words. How to handle?I had a woman call me dear more than once and then gravitate to darling during discussion. I took note and become dull in tone so as not to encourage. People get it.  I don't go for the obvious i.e. confrontation

There is an agent in our area who ALWAYS calls me "Sweetie" and because it's just her personality I smile and don't respond.  It's a little uncomfortable when that happens ... but you have to consider the source.

But I do know better than to ever refer to another agent with any of these terms, most would not appreciate it in this day and age.

I have a female account executive that calls me dear or honey and it used to  bother me a bit. I have gotten more used to it, but I sometimes still grit my teeth on the phone since she comes across as condescending sometimes. But, when it is someone from the south with an accent, I think it is so cute! I guess it also depends on how I feel it is meant. 

That being said, I don't deal with it. I just let it roll off my back.
