I know that well as we see many Saltbox style homes here in NH. We see it most commonly on a colonial style home where the roof slants down in the rear to the 1st level

A saltbox roof is a common roof type among older colonial style homes. They look very similar to a simple shed roof in that it is a lean-to, and are also similar to a gable roof in that this style creates a gable. While a gable roof has symmetrical roof fields and slopes, a saltbox roof is asymmetrical.

Do not see them often. Here is more vault ceiling in front often come with solar panels these days.  In Professorville part of Palo Alto I see a few of these frame style when I see asking price I don't walk away I run.....$6M???
