My ipPhone indicate if a message is delivered and sometimes indicates read! 

I don't know.  I do know it was read when somone responds.

Praful, there are a lot of services that allow you to track emails. 

As for the text messages, "delivered" is something that will let you know if a message has landed in someones text message but, "read" is something that each phone owner opts in or out of. You can't control that from the sending end - only the recipient's end.

You started by asking if we can track email and end up asking about text messages. I use a program that tracks each of my emails to see if it's been opened, $10/month is a reasonable cost if you ask me.

That's a good question.  I googled the question, and it seems you can do it on iOS, but not on Androids.

There's an app for that. Our association uses a text program to notify about programs and classes and it has tracking.

I open and delate text messages all the time that I didn't read because i knew they were spam, or some other bs. Just because a person clicks " View" doesn't mean they actually read your text.

I know on my iphone when a message is delivered but that seems to be it. I often ask for confirmation of receipt if that's important, as I do with email.

Yes, but you all have to be using the same service.  Examples: Tiger Text, WhatsApp, FB Messenger.  The key here is that these are third party services.  Text messaging by itself actually runs on the carrier signal your phone uses to check in with the towers.  It was designed with NO quality of service or guarantee of service.  Therefore no text messages are EVER guaranteed to be received by the recipient, texts can take MONTHS to be sent and there is no way to track them.

My phone has if it is delivered.

I use Constant Contact, and can tell who opens the emails and who clicks on the links.

I'm testing Lion Desk and they track any activities results. 

Also, I believe that usually most texts are read if they are able to receive your text, even if they do not answer.

Lots of good answers here. I have noticed some of my friends have turned off their "Read Receipt" on iOS, so it just says delivered and never switches to Read.

Ask them to acknowledge text or email.

Another text asking to confirm is my approach or a request upfront
