I have a title company and a real estate company. I can set both company phone numbers to ring to my cell phone when I am out. They have different ring tones so I know which company the caller is trying to reach and I how I should answer the call.

I carried two cell phones during a time in my life when my Mom was critically ill and living in my home and I had teens at home. We called the one phone the bat phone as only family had the number. Mom's better and children in college so carrying the second box didn't make sense. I think you can use another number that you advertise and have it ring to your phone with a different ring tone to avoid carrying the extra box

I'd use one just for consumer listing inquiries.

Very nice for those who don't want to pay for 2 phones (muchless carry them). I like the idea and would probably use it for marketing, just as you suggested.
I wonder, if you're using it for two different businesses, if each number carries a separate voicemail message? I'll take a look. Thanks for sharing, Annette Lawrence , Palm Harbor, FL 727-420-4041.

You can label the number to the business so you can identify the type of call as it is ringing in. My husband uses this through Google voice for his multiple businesses.

For me personally I don't see a need for more than 1 number

I can see a MAIN OFFICE number that can be forwarded to various agents who are on duty at certain times.
Right now I have THREE PHONES:
1. iPhone 7 one: is my Northern California number which is on yard signs. Someone local answers that one.
2. iPhone 7 two primary, is one mostly used on advertising, Internet.
3. iPhone4 three, is a local Hawaii number since I am a broker in Hawaii too.
4. Yep, I can see me getting an 800 for general enquiries but it would ring on one of my existing 3 phones.

It could be used for new client calls

I'd follow your lead and use one for active clients and family and friend, and I'd use line two for incoming new clients.

Convenient for people who want a second number, without having to carry a second phone.

Sounds like a good idea, but might get confusing as you are switching from "one phone to another". I would need to learn more.

Interesting question that depends on the business and marketing plan. One line would be answered one way and the other another way. This I know

Well I actually already have multiple numbers going to my phone and another that can text me to the same phone...costs nothing extra and does come in handy for lots of things.

I guess many providers offer additional number. My database offer a customized number for about $3/m. I guess it is for separating business calls/texts from personal. I like the idea.

If I was working heavily in a different area code, I'd get one in that area code to appear more "local." I'm about 5 minutes from where the 805 becomes the 818.

This is great; I will check it out today! I already carry two cell phones; one for California and one for Florida business, but I have other needs.

I had a second number trying to separate calls from existing clients to those calling out of the blue. my thought was to try to get the tons of unsolicited sales calls from taking up so much time, it didnt work and i am sticking with 1 number. I just block all those sales calls asking me to be on page 1 of google or offering 100 leads for 100 bucks

I also know people that set up Google Voice numbers for free. For example, I know investors that will set up a separate number for every house they flip or a separate number for every mailer they send out. Callers go right to voicemail and then the agent calls them back at a more convenient time. This enables them to track how many calls they get for a particular listing or mailer. It takes a little work to set up but can be very handy.
