       Regular Twitter users (like me) have been gaming the system, using images and other tricks to get more words.   The 280 count will help!

About freaking time!  They only said they were going to do this last year!

It makes me think of the Doublemint gum commerical.

Twice as many characters to sputter twice as much nonsense. I think Twitter is the dumbest internet invention ever. That said, I'll still advertise my listings just in case. ;)

When I heard this yesterday I asked myself -- didn't they announce this before?   I'm not sure it will have much of an impact for me as I only use Twitter for linking AR posts.

The only tweeting I do is a link to my blog Lise Howe so it really makes no difference to me.

I think it's fun to make things fit into the 140 - increasing that changes twitter to just any other platform.  Not a good idea on their end.

They could use 8 characters for all I care.  I'm not a Twitterer, Twitteree, or Twitteress.

Folks are busy, beaucoup overbooked. Being concise, cutting to the chase saves everyone time on twitter, any media stream for engagement. We use to the max whatever level the bar is lifted or lowered to for quality not quantity. When craigslist took away links, the sky did not fall and you re-group, re-invent. We're REALTORS.. wearing the blue and gold hardest working letter in the entire alphabet right?  RRrrrrrrrrr.

I love this! When Twitter first announced this, I started counting the days:) I happen to love Twitter. I was one of the very first people on Twitter, it was so much fun back then although frustrating to tweet from a blackberry phone!!! 

I have made many good contacts via Twitter. 

I read these comments here with most of them missing the point of Twitter. 

Twitter happens to be an actual ranking signal for the google bots. In other words, Twitter is great for SEO and with more characters it will make it even better to get more semantical content in. 

So when people say they are not using it because they don't like it,  I think , and so? Use it for SEO. It is free, it is a strong link back that counts. 

I do not believe it will stick. Those that are experts at the 140 characters will not like it one bit.

Oh no, so the rants will get longer?! The only tweets I ever hear about are either from the President or wars between celebrities and/or political wives and housewives.

I have none since I stopped using it years ago - and I'm happier and have more time for my business for it!

It won'f affect me as I don't Tweeet.  I only use the the account to post automatically to Twitter from  my FB, as well as to other social media platforms.

Not liking the idea, and those I follow on Twitter, which are some major marketing and media types, don't seem to like the idea either.

My immediate reaction was, when was the last time I was on twitter.   Sadly, not enough hours for all the social sites.

Be aware, with more characters to type and more characters to read, twit has effectively doubled their shelf space in the SM marketplace.

Either FB loses or more employers suffer loss of productivity as they pay their employees to be twits by meeting payroll as employees double their paid time on SM.
