You can't control client. All you can do is provide your best advice and tell them to search on a local site.

I tell them that they are not always accurate but I don't discourage them. If they are excited enough to be looking for houses I don't see any purpose in discouraging them.

       My buyers and sellers surf Zillow.  Z is getting more accurate in the status of listings posted.  It is much more intuitive than Realtor dot com.  And the Zestimates are becoming realistic.   

     I don't discourage them... they still come to me to see the houses or list the house on MLS, they want my opinion on the condition and price, they need me to fill out the forms.   Zillow can't do those things (yet).

I do not discourage them to do anything other than not put their trust in them and to check with me to verify.

I agree with Richard Bazinet /MBA, CRS, ABR .... they're going to do as they wish.... but if you make a positive recommendation for them to follow your website, they will.....

no, I've sold listings not in my MLS because because my clients found them on zillow.  I check it myself for listings that might not be in the MLS

Make the phone ring, the email server to glow red hot. Contact, no matter where the connection starts is the not the concern. Getting the real estate buying and selling solution is, get to the closing for the pass the key, slide the check please and thank you. And on to the next property matchmaking exercise.

When these sites pop up in conversations, I always suggest them to use our local MLS site, as it is accurate, unlike Z & T.

Yes and we provide them with the alternative that gives them realtime information; our website with IDX access

Our sellers are the ones who want to stay away from Zillow. They always get mad at their values, incorrect information and poor presentations of their properties. They think we have the abilty to remove their homes from Zillow. We have to explain how they now have the right to put their info on their site, sellers ask us - do Zillow's rights trump our rights as property owners?

No. They are free to research all they want and how they interpret what they read is up to them. I see inaccurarte info everywhere, including on agents websites, in the MLS, in tax records, etc.
