Trying to stay within a 40 min radius from my office. I once had a listing 1 hour away in another county but I teamed up with realtors from that area and referred any callers / potential buyers to them. It would have been absolutely crazy to drive there every time spend an hour with a client, there goes half my day. I did this because it was a past client that did not trust anyone else but me. I would not normally take on such a listing but definitely refer. Also do not feel comfortable giving advice in areas where I am not familiar.

Andrew, I typically stay within 10-20 miles, but I currently have two listings that are beyond 50 and I just closed a house that was 75 miles from home. Each one one has a particular reason, but I don't normally travel that far.

In my market, "time" is often more important than "distance".  Many, if not most, of my appointments are based on that factor.  My decision to pursue or accept a listing involves that consideration as well as my ability to properly serve that client and property.

I have ALWAYS had the opinion that closer is better.... and that hasn't changed..... I continue to market my town....and I don't go beyond it.... if the agents want to pick up a listing beyond my town and the abutting towns, they will need to service all of those listings just as they do the local ones....OR REFER IT!!!  THAT'S THE BOTTOM LINE.

I don't like to go too far out of my service area .  If I do not know  the area I would rather refer to an agent who knows the area and schools  etc   Don't like to just put a sign up  put in the MLS and hope for the best ... Want to know the area I am selling when I receive a call

Austin is growing so much no one can cover all the areas and understand the nuances of all the area..I stick to the NW part of Austin and would refer if it was South or East. Closer is better to the community I service. Service is always the key for my clients and if I'm not the best one than I'll refer to a trusted agent.

It has to be reasonable. Vacant land is easier to deal with from a little bit of a distance, with homes I like to stay within a 30 mile radius. A lot of our area is semi-rural so that is very doable. Outside that, I would refer out.

It depends on the circumstances. I prefer to list in my town, but make exceptions. The furthest listing I've had so far was about 45 minutes from my home office.

Here in NH as we are really made up of 6 "cities" and a bunch of small towns some of which you can drive through in less than 5 minutes, i go 1 hour out. In my core area I market and sell in 4 of the 6 cities  and all towns in between all within 20 minutes from home and office. I will travel to hit from the MA border to seacoast to lakes to about 30 minutes to the west where it gets very rual. WIthin an hour i hit 6 of the 6 biggest population areas
