Well, it IS Seattle, so cannot say I am surprised, but I can see the unintended consequences now when landlords sell their properties in Seattle and everyone starts complaining there are no available rentals.   

Wow... that's interesting.  I'd hate to be a landlord in Seattle.  Maybe they can start utilizing a "by referral only" policy, by-passing traditional advertising and background checks.

I have no comment on this... I don't rent property and have no itention of doing so... it's another crazy law, however, showing government's continual intrusion into the private lives of citizens.

I just use business reasons anyway, most criminals also leave a path of financial destruction too.

Unbelievable.  It's patchetic that restrictions are put on property we "own".

Seems an add-on to the HUD rule about criminal histories.  Sounds like you can still look up the info though, so that's good.  It doesn't worry me, there are plenty of ways to work within that reg and keep habitual evictions and axe murderers out of your properties.

First Seattle, next Portland and then the rest of the state. Whatever happened to private property rights?

Landlords have little control including evictions where the tenant lives for free and the courts think they are doing the right thing!

Well,you can deny based on the credit. It would be highly unusual for someone with criminal records to have good credit, no?

2/3 of America consists of people with some sort of blemish or record of something. Whatever one has done, lets move on is the rule of thumb

Wrong in so many ways. What about the safety of the residents? I can see lawsuits for failing to insure the safety of the innocent

I have attended some classes on this being considered discrimination and felons that have repaid their debt to society should not be punished further. i don't agree. Sex offenders have to register for life so it follows them.

Every city councilperson should be obligated to manage 10 rentals for a year before they're allowed to pass ordinances against landlords

Aren't they the same ones that raised the minimum wage and now workers are making less because their hours were slashed?

That seems discriminatory to sex offender? Either records count or they don't. We don't have that problem here in IL yet but I'm sure it will be coming along soon.
