I do not own an HP laptop Kathleen Daniels I prefer Toshiba laptops. They have proven very reliable for me. I wonder if all brands have that funky little feature?

Yes to having a HP laptop....Mine, when ordered came from China. Heres a good question. China is not a USA pal but a business partner. Would they put key-logger software into my laptop? If discovered, would they risk losing hundreds of millions of dollars and loss of credibility trade everywhere? I know they would if they could get away with it but financial loss and a good chance of being found out says...it's not worth it.

As to anyone else doing this? You bet and that goes for everyone who uses the Internet. I had a friend whose computer was compromised for two years by his ex-boss. He only knew because when I found out, I sent heads-up via a mutual friend to tell him...He was livid but helpless

No they are not as good as Toshiba Satellite. I've owned both and prefer Toshiba when it comes to laptops.

I have one and so does my husband. Mine is not my primary computer. 

I gave up on HP laptops a few years back.

I have an HP 32bit system whose sole purpose is to platy CDs.

ANY computer made in China (which is all consumer models) have embedded spy ware. They are hidden in the boot, and/or driver memories.

As others have suggested in previous questions. have a Plan B if you need to toss the machine you are currently using.

Went Apple awhile back and couldn't be happier.

Update: Got a reply from the person I forwarded it to in the corporate world.  HP has a fix for this.
