I am in California. I echo what Ryan Huggins - Thousand Oaks, CA said ... stucco.

Brick and earthquake country is not a good combo. Out here we're either a wood siding or stucco. My house is a combo of both. My rentals are all stucco.

Prior to ActiveRain, I had never heard of James Hardie Board, in my Southern California market stucco is popular.

James Hardie is really coming on here. We are primarily a brick market. Brick is cheap here since Oklahoma is a major brick making area.

Here in NH we see very few Stucco homes and I had to look up what James Hardy board is. No knowing it is a cement like board, i have not seen this used in building here in NH. Virtually all newer homes are vinyl sided here. Some older ones will have a cedar shake and those in the 70's and 80's a clapboard.

Stucco cracks a lot here in Denver, with our extreme temperatures, but buyers do love it. We see more wood siding with rock/brick accents.

Greetings from Tallahassee. Brick was in vogue years ago; today it costs too much. Hardie Board and Stone are the main two sidings going up these days.

Block and Stucco is the norm in Florida, but in San Diego, Hardie Planks rule, unless wood frame & stucco.

James Hardie here over stucco, but both are less common than masonite siding. We had a bad batch of stucco many years ago which caused water intrusion issues some some are leery of stucco. Hardie plank & vinyl became big back in the last building boom but honestly this time around the wood & masonite siding is what I see more often. We mostly only see brick as an accent around the base of garages. There are certain builders that do Hardie and advertise it as an advantage they provide. -Kasey

never stucco.... if stucco is not applied properly, mold grows under it....
Hardieplank is a great product.... holds a stain for a very long time.... wood/cementitious material ...more expensive than other types of siding...

Never heard of Hardie boards, but have seen plenty of cement siding homes around, but no stucco around here.

Why is brick not applicable to Florida?
My house is half brick and half board

Many folks make great claims for Hardie Board, but it remains frame construction for insurance purposes.

We're mostly wood & stucco homes in San Diego. Mediterranean, Spanish and Italian style is the dominant look. Craftsman and Cape Cods too that may use JHB, I sell mostly stucco homes.

Hardie plank is more popular here, cannot even remember the last time I saw a stucco home, although when we lived in Atlanta, there was a lot of stucco.
