I own a timeshare membership and I have never seen such high pressure sales in my life. If you're going to use it they are great but if you quit using it ;it gets expensive real quick and it's hard to sell ....

I have  a Marriott time share (2 weeks) - 2 bedroom water front in Maui. 

Advantage - You can split up the 2 bedroom and get 4 weeks out of it. You couldn't touch 4 weeks ocean front for the yearly fees you pay.  

Disadvantage - Resale is terrible but renting them out - you can make money.  Now Marriott is selling "points". Stay away from that.  You still pay maintenance fees but Marriott can raise the amount of points for your stay whenever they want. If you own, all you pay is maintenance.

Bottom line - I would NEVER do it again!

Advantage, limits your expense to two points in time.

Disadvantage, limited resale market, limited use, hard to finance, difficult to sell, the only winner is the original developer.

I have not participated in time-share ownership.  Difficulties in selling is likely the biggest disadvantage.  

I personally haven't had any experience with time shares. From what I understand they can be very difficult to get rid of.

I am totally against time-share ownership. I have friends that own them and cannot sell or give them away because they have high maintenance fees, hard to use and the management has let them run down. They are stuck.

personally I have not seen any advantages.

      Highest sales pressure in the world.  They offer you a free weekend stay at the resort.  When you arrive, they put your head in a vise until you sign on the dotted line. 

      And resale?  You will be lucky to get 20 cents on the dollar.

I've never been involved with time share..... I've purchased 23 units of real estate in the past 38 years.... and I now have the home I live in and one single family ranch style home for family members to use when they need housing....

I have a time share forever that we almost never use....What a waste of money if you do not want to travel to the same location over and over again.

No advantage in buying one of these, all the advantages are for the sly fox that is selling them.

I'm with Joe Pryor ..no time shares for me.

I would rather own short term rentals throug AirBnB or VRBO. I ahve people calling me to try to figure out how to unload their time-shares.

Few have advantages.  That's why so many lawyers make a living getting people out of time share deals.

It depends on the specific parties to the transaction.

Time shares can be very difficult to sell.

For real estate agents in Oregon, you cannot represent buyers and sellers of these. Better ownership is fractional - in which there is actual real estate involved and a licensee can represent clients in the exchange of these.

For the ones that have places around the world that you can go to, they're great.  Otherwise, you're committing to always vacationing at one spot.  Personaly, I am not a fan of them.

There are advantages and disadvantages in everything we do in life. It is a matter of looking at the bigger picture and see if it meets your need.
