I look to the legal system in the relevant jurisdiction to define that phrase. There have been many cases where the courts have decided that something is or is not real property. Even various governments make laws stating that certain things are or are not real property for certain purposes.

As opposed to unREAL?
I have heard of investor speakers who have intangible, invisible portfolio.

Am I missing something here? Is there not a definition in one of your textbooks?

I agree with Wayne Martin - definitions vary by state and you should understand what the definition is in your state. Case law will go by the "real property" in the state it is located.

Look to your state statutes and then to some case law. Definitions and law differ from state to state!

The house and anything attached to it. Plus the land and anything attached/growing out of it. That's the easy definition. I'd go to the back of your textbook for the "proper" definition.

Usually it's anything considered permanently attached to the property. But that is pretty subjective sometimes. You might find this post interesting, and it might help answer your question.

Usually, if it is considered permanently attached or would damage the property if removed it is "real".

I agree with Marc Swartz, CPA, CA, Real Estate Broker on this. Also, I'd check with my real estate instructor for their definition.
