Maybe now Debe Maxwell can publish her list and Ryan Huggins - Thousand Oaks, CA can write a post on this. I don't use hashtags ... it seems like doing so would be helpful. AR is place to learn ... bring Debe and Ryan

Thank you Kathleen Daniels, Debbie Reynolds and Michael Jacobs for the vote of confidence!
#YES you can use them to link to larger topics/groups. Sadly, I had to have one of my friend's kids (a millenial) explain them to me a couple years ago when I got into real estate marketing online. Basically, they are like our blog "tags" here, they help to categorize a post so if someone searches on "real estate" or "open houses" on twitter, FB, InstaGram, G+, etc. your posts (along with millions of others) will come up.

Yes, you can use #hashtags for posting to larger groups. It is a great way to organize and also to search. I have found the # system on Twitter is better than on FB.
But you can also use them to organize your own posts and content. So if you want to keep track of your own topics, especially on your FB biz page, and on G+, you can create some unique hashtags that other people are not likely to use to pull up only your own content. Then you can create URLS from that content, then you can link to that content, creating some powerful google juice. And you can use those links in your marketing.
For instance , if you sell luxury homes, you can create a hashtag your sellers will remember like, #DorieSellsLuxuryinAustin
Then you add that hashtag to your posts on FB and Twitter and G+ and Instagram that are your listings or market reports, etc.
Then do a search for the hashtag and you will get a page with those listings, which you can then take a screenshot of and show your seller leads or send a link to it to your seller leads. Of course you will say that no one else in your market is doing this:).
For organizational purposes in the different platforms you can create hashtags for things you want to find easily, like #DoriePostsAboutShortSales, etc. because the FB save feature is pretty terrible.

I do not use hashtags on Facebook.
I already receive hundreds of likes and comments every day in Facebook groups.

I do not. The only network I use for # would be: instagram and twitter.
