Price it right, invite neighbors to view the home and tell their friends who might want to live in their neighborhood and post flyers at apartment complexes (if permissible) for renters who may be in the market to buy. Also, invite a mortgage broker to the Open House to answers buyers' questions and pre-qualify them.

Tip #1--Use professional photos as every web site thrives on them. Video would be an extra tip!
Tip#2--Open House signs--plenty of them. Check with your local ordinances for signs.
Tip#3--Special Home House pricing or concession. Free Home Warranty, Seller purchase bonus of closing costs, etc.

Open houses and selling a home fast, in my experience, have nothing to do with truly selling a home fast.
Take outstanding photos and make sure you describe the property whenever you can in photo captions. Photos and price is what selling fast comes down in my own opinion.

In one sentence? (already busted that limit, again)
SELLING is one of the five legitimate purposes of an open house. To be successful the owner MUST enable the agent to advance the process. The agent MUST use a PLF to ensure sufficient critical mass to create an event.
The critical element is presenting the visitor the opportunity to respond to the question, "What would you pay for this house?"
NONE of this will prove beneficial without the owner enabling the agent, in writing, to get the house sold. This is beyond the scope of most real estate agent understanding.
