Jeff, it is a good strategy to build reciprocal links which some SEO people recommend.  Especially to build your reputation score with links from high ranking sites.  Key thing is, if they write for you, you need to write for them.  AHREFS has a good video series about this kind of stuff.  Not a lot of it is applicable to us, but some of it is.  Look for them on Youtube, they use their tool which they sell a subscription to, but the free version (which I have) is pretty good too.  Lot of stuff they consider "Blackhat" tactics, but are legal so more like "Greyhat" in reality.

Now, do I do it?  No.  Would I allow it?  No.  Why?  I don't write many blogs that aren't market reports/etc. so it isn't a real option for me.

I have asked , offer and promted. No one has taken me up on it.

I have not been in that situation yet Jeff Dowler CRS.  I think it would depend if I knew the Guest Blogger or not, in my case.  I will be reading replies below, regarding the 'Pros & Cons'.  Good question!

I've been asked from time to time but those who asked were not necessarily what "fit" into my strategy. I don't see the harm to do it once in a rare while if you really know whom you're allowing to do it.

I haven't even thought about this. It might be a good thing to do from an SEO standpoint. 

Jeff way back in 2009 I did have a few quest bloggers but it didn't represent what I wanted to create so I let that idea go.

I've received requests for it, but haven't taken them up on it.  Haven't really felt comfortable doing it with people whom I don't know.  Most of the time they're completely out of the blue, and I don't know anything about them (especially, if they're whom they say they are).  I might consider it with somebody whom I know and trust.

As a LO, I don't feel comfortable doing this, Jeff Dowler CRS ... I want to retain full control over the content of my blog and posts.  Just too many possible pitfalls and consequences.  I also don't want (nor do I have the time) to constantly be monitoring someone else's content or posts.  Call me somewhat neurotic ...

Yes but I can never get many victims, I mean guests to write. I've asked many people & they freak out like it's the WSJ or something.

I have been getting a lot of requests recently.  And i say "no" to all of them.  It would have to be someone very special... very unique... for me to allow someone to guest blog in my stead.

Everything on my blog comes directly out of my addled brain.

I have not and probably never will, however I am sure that it is a smart business choice for many who do.

Many understand that their clients do not hire them as writers but for the many other skills and talents that they excel at.

No, for the reason others have given.  I own what I write and can verify what I post.

I did once, back in the day (2007? 2008?), and it was adequate content as I recall. Since then I have gotten many requests but turned them all down but one. He said he had some awesome local content that would benefit my readers, so I asked him to submit a draft of what he proposed to write. I never heard from him again. C'est la vie...

No, I don't. I recently got a request from someone who was in the luxury car business. I didn't think it would have been appropriate.

I would providing benefit exists.

Benefit could be exceptional content or creation of authority or expanded audience (or all three).

After all, you are not giving them the password to your blogging account and you still own the DELETE authority.

But, the important response to here follows , "I want to put my blog about CIS Score you your site." If the response is 'No' the matter is settled.
