Just a few questions.

  • Do you have broker license?
  • How long have you been in real estate?
  • Other than running office meetings in your office what experience do you have as a teacher/instructor?

Surf the web for online real estate schools in your state.  Find out what others are doing, what courses/classes are available.  Take some sample courses.

Also... Government.   Find out what your State may require in the way of a license.  Does your coursework have to be approved by your State?

Dan Lopez Check with your real estate board for getting an instructors license. After getting your license talk with your local real estate school. In my area real estate companies are giving classes. Check with them too.

When I first got into teaching, a local real estate school needed instructors. I started teaching the principles class and went on to teach CE, Broker classes and post education classes.

If you are comfortable running sales meetings, you should be comfortable in front of a class. Know your material inside and out, and you shouldn't have any problems.

Toastmasters ... helps with confidence and speaking.  The more we do things the more comfortable we become in our own skin.

Teaching is a skill. People have different ways of learning.

You don't have to have experience to teach ... you just need to know what you are teaching.

I have been tossing the same idea around in my head for a few years.

In NJ, one needs a broker license first and then there is a separate course/assessment to pass.

As you move toward your goal, get some more instructors experience. Run sales meetings in your office, offer to serve on the board of your networking group (BNI?) or a local service organization (Rotary?), mentor new licensees.

Some very good suggestions already.  Here's mine.

Find a very popular teacher (of anything, but of Real Estate if you can) and study them in a few classes.  What do they do that works?  And what can they tell you about how to get started, since they know that business?

I think if you love your job and have a passion for it, you could absolutely become an Instructor Dan Lopez!  Just because you are an introvert, does not mean you cannot do this, and you will learn more (about yourself) since some skills are 'learned', as every instructor, who is great, is not an extrovert.  I think it sounds like a wonderful adventure, and if you are interested, why not pursue it!!  Let us know how 'things' go . . .

Toastmasters.  As silly as it sounds, it should help with the introvert.  Especially if you have to give a speech on a topic, like a training, you can practice "teaching" there.

So you want to be a real estate school instructor.

Why?

I'm serious. Is the goal to open the gate wider for the naive to enter a well established Failure System?

What can you do, as an educator to BREAK the Failure System?

Now, if you had an 'interruption' response rather than a perpetuation response,  you have the vision and passion to be a real transformation teacher of those who are following a dream they do not understand.

You have been in this business long enough to have observed the problem and to understand existing real estate schools mission will not address this issue.

Do Not set your goals to be a real estate school instructor, there are plenty of those, but be a Failure System interrupter. Now that is something worthy of your commitment, time and passion.

Not a bad objective for a broker to find and motivate agents who see the light. Empire building. You'll need a bigger team.
