I used ProSchools online for my RE Brokers License study. Passed the first time which I am told is rare for Hawaii now. (Our exam is about twice as long as it was a few years ago and much more extensive).

It was excellent. The class teacher I had was a Realtor/Broker who had bought up many buildings before retiring to be a teacher. I learned so much.

Cody, thank you very much for that disclosure!

My real estate education was a long time ago, but the company is still around.  I still use them for my CEs and renewals and I'll be using them for my Broker's license stuff as well.  They were recommended to me by my parents (also agents & brokers) and they are who I'd recommend to anyone out here looking to get educated.  They also sell/recommend the Duane Gomer exam cram course.  I highly recommend them and have used them several times (passing exams on the first try).  I even modeled my newsletter after theirs, in a fashion.  Duane has a section about his search for the best burger in the state each month.  Half the time, it's the only reason I open the email!  I adopted putting in a "personal touch" to my newsletter based on that.

I feel my real estate education was exactly what I put into it Cody Carmen!  I did homework every night, always studied a chapter ahead, brought my lunch every day and ate in, so that I could do vocabulary definitions, and did constant repetitional study.  That was what worked for me, as it's been a very long time since I was back in school.  I would recommend the school that I went to, 'Hogan School of Real Estate' in Tucson, AZ, because they had excellent instructors, and I'm assuming they still do.  These guys and gals had knowledge and were interesting, even on subjects that I personallly found really boring - HA!  I loved the instructors with passion, because I was looking forward to starting a new career, and had passion in my last career, so I knew what it was like!  I have not gone back, as I have taken other classes through other venues, though without a doubt I would go back if it was a class I needed, and I could not take it closer to where I live.

Real estate schools today, just as they were when I attended, are the first in line to take money from the innocent. Of course there exists a long line of those with there hands out to rob the newbie until they smarten up or go broke.

REALITY CHECK: I passed the exams first time. So the school did its job they could claim, but I  am more likely to believe I did my job.

Unfortunately, this first step has NO RELATIONSHIP to success. As you might believe, I have a low regard for what real estate schools accomplish and deliver.

Ongoing relationship with a school? No.

Do I recommend a school? Yes. Bob Hogue
Is Bob Hogue any different than the others? No.

Any opinions? Of course.
A real estate school should understand and make clear that the aspiring agent is in essence opening a small business. The school should treat the agent as a small business owner and require from them the same as a business owner. Doing so will end the most predictable outcome of the newly licensed agent :

"I've got my license, now what?"

The school of course says that is the brokers job, but in essence all that is happening is perpetuation of the robbery.

There is a better way and you don't need to work at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory to figure it out.

But it will compel the naive to face reality and that could affect school revenue UNLESS the school bases its reputation and fees on SUCCESS and promotes the same message!

What better way to model the better business plan to new business owner that to base their business on RESULTS. Model the business that you teach. See, that didn't require a rocket scientist at all.

Then when your school can say 30% of your students are still in business in three years, you will be 100% better than your competition. That does not seem like a high bar.

It helps you to pass the exam. That is about it. The best ones are asked to leave or lost their license so that is live life.

Many do not study just go take the test. They pass first or second time. Then majority never renew it after expiration claiming it was a waste of time. So you have a broker license and not using it.....

My real estate licensing was pre-Internet.  I think the goal was to pass the state examination and I did.  Mission accomplished.

That school was associated with a brokerage that has been absorbed and is no longer in that business.  I haven't had to need to recommend any particular schools.  Most of my continuing education for credit is taken online but I will attend educational classes without credit for personal enrichment and increased knowledge.

The best education is experience.  With that being said, formal schools should incorporate more life like situations on how to handle things woven in with state law.  How's does that saying go?  Those who do, do.  Those who can't teach.
