Depends on the agent. Some agents need a lot of on-going training. Others need motivation. I need a broker who can bring me great leads.

Mikeal,
Make a list of what you need and want from a broker that would help you succeed. Then interview and see if there is a fit for you. A

It depends what you need. If you are a brand new agent, you might need a very experienced mentor and a strong tech support, among many many other things.

To be honest, one thing that is important is if he/she is willing to work outside of normal hours for you. My broker has worked some crazy hours to help me out at difficult times, and that has made a huge difference for me.

The best qualities are the ones that fit for you. Does it feel right, will the broker be there to help you, train you and what does the office environment feel like. Talk to some of the other agents that have been in the business a year or two. They can advise you.

#1. Did they ask to see your business plan?
#2. Do they have the success history to help implement your plan.
Moral to the story: If you do nothing (no plan) they will do nothing other than toss you in the deep end and see if you learn to swim. The qualities of the broker most beneficial are directly to the qualities you demonstrate before you meet the broker.
