That's a pretty complex question for a state as big as CA! Systems vary, even within individual communities - I'd say mostly private wells and public water

A terrible one in my area - I pay more for water than I did when I lived in the desert!

Basically the same here as Debbie and Fred said for cities and villages.  Nebraska is broken up into several NRD's - Natural Resource Districts.  Almost all of Nebraska sits on one of the largest fresh water aquifers in the world, so our state does a lot to protect that fresh water as it's an important natural resource.

Municipal

This is typically addressed at the local level and not at the state as California is very large and diverse.  

We do not have a state water system.

Our farms are fed by the Aquifer, most of our water comes from Northern California.  They act like the middle east and their oil.  They have the water and don't want to give Southern California for all we give them.

What kind doesn't CO have? :0) We run the gamut out here. Water rights can be a big concern here, and they are a complex construct to be handled by lawyers.

I'm not sure. I just know it is a city Deportment of water and power and CA water is quite expensive and not drinkable.

My jurisdiction has numerous water systems.

Lakes, springs, aquifers...Texas is well out of its drought.

Ours runs below the ground, where we stick wells down there and pump it up.

Wet? Minot gets it's water from the Mouse River, from deep wells, and from a man made reservoir off of the Missouri River.

I'm in CA...we have no water.

Each city or municipality has their own. We have city water in my town.

    There is no "State Water System" in Florida.  Some are municipal, some community, some private wells.
