I won't remove my shoes either (doctor's orders). Walking barefoot can destroy your foot's arch.
If my shoes are muddy, I may make an exception or just not tour the house.
My broker was showing one of our listings and the kids had muddy feet and they were asked to remove their shoes. The buyer's agent said "the mud was there before my clients got there." Mind you the house was just cleaned a day before and my broker was inside and it was spotless. Broker didn't do anything. We all agreed it was good I wasn't there. I would have ripped the agent up a new one and made the kids either remove their shoes or GTFO of the house! I was also on day 6 of ultra low carbs and my inner "adam henry" was no longer "inner".

Good morning Bob. When we have an open house for a home that we flip, we have shoe covers just in case, but most people have no issue with the request, as we have signage that says just that.

No and I do keep shoe covers in my car for bad weather days. I don't ask people to remove their shoes.

No I haven't had anyone that continued to walk through the house with muddy shoes on. I have had a couple of clients that said they didn't need to see the house if they had to take their shoes off.

Not my buyer client, but open house visitors. Ugh! Yes, we always have booties at listings and opens. One gentleman left w/o viewing property. So be it.

No, but I'm sure the look on my face would dissuade them from going further into the house. Sometimes booties don't contain the mud.

No. Muddy shoes should be removed, then person can wear bootie over their socks. If they refuse to remove them, then we leave without seeing the house.

Bob,
I think you can get shoe covers, and I would not let someone come in a pristine environement and not wear some covers. A

I don't remove mine so I don't ask anyone to remove theirs.
However I bring a towel/mat when it rains, shoe cover are always in the boot, and as a last resort, plastic bags.
I do not let a buyer/visitor disrespect the home of another by muddying the place up even when the cause is all the dog grenades in the back yard.

Not a buyer client but a guest and that was because we invited this stranger to dinner and he had holes in his socks and didn't want us to know. I gave him a pair of socks (I guessed this and was right) and we had a Disney ending

I have had listings where obviously someone did not remove their shoes and made a mess. Some people are just not respectful of others!

I refused to allow a woman into an open house for not either (1) removing her shoes or (2) wearing booties. I don't make the rules sweetheart ... if you want to see the house ... those are the rules.
She left with her shoes and her holier than thou attitude.

When you ask them to remove their shoes, if they look unwilling and you can see obvious dirt, you can always follow up with: ...or would you prefer me to send you the bill for cleaning the carpet? I intend to return the house to them in the same condition in which they loaned it to me.
