Easter was a big deal growing up overseas.  My Russian grandmother would make all the traditional foods, Easter Bread baked in tall coffee cans, Easter Cheesecake in a specially built wooden mold that one put together with the letters XB which are in the Russian Alphabet which stands for Christ Has Risen!  She also made sausage, and blinis (raised pancakes) specially made for caviar. For dessert, she made Baba Au Rum. 

All this was in preparation for the buffet after the midnight church service. I helped her somewhat  as a child.  I would go to sleep at 8PM, then was awakened at 11PM to dress in a new dress, shoes and a big matching bow (SIA stole that from me).  The service was long in the Russian Greek Orthodox Church, and the highlight was walking around the church 3 times singing Christ has risen holding candles, and all the kids held an icon...

I support those who find what they are doing important for and to them

Since there are so few of us hillbillies left these days, I guess enjoying a jug of hard cider is the last remaining one. No more pig roasts; the White House demanded we stop

having my children and many of my grandchildren together and eating good food....

I grew up in SoCal and all summer long Dad would play chef for a Sunday BBQ in our outdoors screened patio. Mom would make "Uncle Howard's Potatoes" (sliced with layers of onions, cheese, etc) that cooked in foil on the grill alongside the steaks. We'd play badminton or softball after dinner until dark. Great family time!

I love holidays and try to remember what they are truely for.  Most of the younger generations don't have a clue.

While I was not raised in a religiou household I was taught what the meanings were.  Not the presents and candy.

I do have one memory related to Easter one year.  My parents had taken my brother and I to Orlando for a very special Easter Brunch and two things happened, the first was when it was time to go I had not been able to eat all of my meal so I asked the waitress if I could take the HAM home with me, she said surely and took it in the back and brought out this little bag with a little box in it and we left.  On the way to the car I heard a little bird chirping in the bushes, I went over with my father and discovered a little tiny baby wren on the ground with a broken wing.  We scooped it up and put it in a box we had in the trunk and took it home with us.  When we got home we put the food in the frig and went about fixing up the little bird.  Too get to the memorable part, when we took out the food to have as part of our dinner that night when we opened the bag/box we discovered that the waitress had given us a box of YAMS!!!  The little bird recoved and within a few short weeks was off on its own.  Closest thing I ever had to a baby chick or bunny.

The family traditions are memories of long ago.

This year was the last year, we hope, that our family will be separated! Traditions to follow!

Chrissi Chapman Topoleski I do not observe Easter - however, we do have some traditions for Hindu religious festivals.

It's really all about family, no matter what the food, traditional or otherwise, and building those memories of special times

Family, friends, food and fun!  I have smaller grandchildren and we have a big Easter Egg Dying party the Friday before.  Saturday is spent enjoying community events and Sunday is family day. 

My Easter traditions have always centered around going to an Easter service and having a meal with family and/or friends.

We have many traditions. One particular one is on a family member's birthday my husband calls and sings a funny birthday song. Everyone loves it and he isn't that great a singer but that doesn't matter.

Just being with family whether it's a holiday or not

We used the side of a file cabinet for measuring the hts of the kids when they where small.

Now I am trying to remember which one it was...

Getting a day off is pleasant enough of a tradition for me.

Eating peeps, jelly beans and chocolate bunnies is my easter tradition.  Other than that, it's just another day.

No traditions here.  No kids to mark on a doorway.

We 'pok' eggs. My family is Cajun. Our tradition is to hold a contest of pocking eggs with a soft poke to our opponent's egg. The winner challenges the next person, and so on until there is one winner standing.

It is the holidays I miss my mom and dad the most, we had really good times growing up with a house full of company to celebrate.

With the kids living across the country Debbie and I went to Church, out to lunch then worked the rest of the day. 

I experienced much of what Ron and Alexandra Seigel wrote, as my grandmother was Russian Orthodox. But having been raised as German Lutheran, we celebrated Easter twice. Lived for many, many years on Park Avenue in NYC just two blocks from the Russian Church there and all I had to do is open my windows and listen to the singing at the service.

In NYC, I would also go to Good Friday service from noon till 3pm. Haven't found one of these here in Charlotte as yet.
