Listening is the number one skill that has lead to my success closely followed by keeping my mouth shut and not feeling a need to fill "awkward silence" with stupidity.

Ariane Taylor - for me, my engineering background has made me detailed person - which is good for my clients, specially when I prepare the market analysis for them.

I utilize all the skills I acquired during a lifetime of working in various occupations. Every job/career I have had in 40+ years has been a stepping stone to the next level and the skills and knowledge I acquired previously were easily portable to the next position so I built on that foundation. Real estate was a culmination of many years of both life experience and business experience for me and I think those skills are important in what I do now. Thinking outside the box is an added plus and a skill that I seem to have an innate ability.

I agree with multitasking, as I used to be a Police dispatcher. Typing sure helps as well as being able to read and write!

Talking and being an effective communicator . It's hard to be successful if you cannot communicate and get " the deal" fine as DT always says .

Several skills from different careers.
Military discipline from my time in the U.S. Air Force. People skills from my position as a ballroom dance instructor, also sales and management skills when I was interim manager for that dance school. Number crunching and paperwork from my time as an accountant with the State of Florida. Technology skills from working with my brother's SEO firm.

Ariane, there are two parts to your question. What skill transferred to real estate? I will let other answer that.
Now, "..add most to your success.." is an entirely different question.
This boils down to a process of self examination that culminates in the answer to the following question. On the face, is doesn't seem right. On the other side the light comes on. The answer to this question adds the most to an agents success: "What do you imagine would have been the cost to the client had they not accepted your invitation?"
The amazing thing is, the same answer will be true regarding the agents previous life, the one before real estate.
From this response the agent constructs their business promoting the solutons, outcomes or transformation that draw their costumers, and everybody else, to them.

Technology, being able to talk to people and break things down into terms they can understand. I did IT Security for the nation's largest hospital management company. Highly technical and confusing to end users (nurses, doctors, etc.) so I got a LOT of experience in those areas, plus negotiating and finding a "win-win" for the hosptial managment and the security program.
