It was great, I had over four million in closed transactions and was named Rookie of the Year for my county in Florida. I was also Rookie of the year for my region in the company. During that year I had two floor calls that led to almost half of my production. Even then I knew that getting a floor call that leads to a listing and a sale that totals over a million dollars in production was not normal.

Good. I started when the market was strong which was easier than during the recession. My real estate commissions were second-income for me and well worth the additional hours I committed to it.

Miserable. I had no idea what to do and was too arrogant to admit it, lol.

RE is not meant for every one.

Ariane,
I had been a real estate investor and a mortgage lender so I got off to a fairly quick start. I got some great advice about my first month, Never be afraid to move up in price” so I tried as quickly as I could to learn the upper priced and luxury home market. It has paid off.

My first year, all the other agents told me that I'd missed the "big market"... houses aren't selling as fast, we're not seeing "multiple offers" anymore... floor-time is terrible.
Fortunately I didn't listen to the nay-sayers. I sold my first property six-weeks in, I met, and exceeded my own personal goals and sold 12 properties the first year (plus one rental), held 51 open-houses that year (I took my birthday weekend off), and I found myself in the midst of three multiple offers (emerging as the winning bid)... and floor... well, floor was great.
And that was only "part time", as I transitioned from another business.
Good thing I didn't listen.

I entered at the end of 1989, and in my first year I sold 48 HUD or VA repos. That was the Oklahoma market at the time. I did open houses three days a week for two years which is the way you got clients. HUD had a $100 down plocy on repos so that was very attractive.

I got into real estate in the late 90's and the market was great, was easy to get started.

That's a lot of questions there Ariane, I could fill a book with the answer.

I started real estate in November of 1996. This was a time that we were heading to the end of a long and horrendous recession that began in 1989 and was complicated by the 1994 Northridge Earthquake. My first year in real estate began with a company run by 7 of the owners of the company. They all had time to teach me and share secrets. They saw how dedicate I was and shared freely. My first sale was 7 months later and by the end of my second year I made the top 15 in the company. That first year I workd 14 - 16 hour days to make sure I could support my family.

I've had two. When I initially got in (not that great) and when I went back in fulltime last April. Second time around was amazing. Doublesided a $1.1 million dollar listing right out of the gate. I had investor clients lined up already and a few of my friends. Started off with a bang.

A real learning experience! I will always be thankful for one agent (top producer) who gave me so much help and advice. She was a great mentor.

It was great! I did as much in sales, & made as much as the job I left behind. I never looked back!

Oh geez... that brings back some memories.
It was 2008 so the market was junk. The first six months were terrible and we found a little success the second half of the year. It took us about 3 full years before we saw real success.
It's a tough gig!

A new learning curve compared to auto sales. As there was a lot of down time did a lot of real estate books and courses to become better.
