Jeff,
It all comes down to your marketplace. This is the reason we always travel to our client's marketplaces. Some marketplaces rely on print (no it is not dead). Postcards just listed work in one place but not in another within the same city, different neighborhoods. Just sold seem to have more of a universal appeal. Marketing is dictated by psychographics, not just demographics. A

Jeff a few years back I paid for the full page back cover of a local magazine that was distributed to 45,000 households, I spent $1800 a month and got zero deals.
I put $1500 back in my pocket and used the other $300 to take a friends to lunch every week and my business really took off.
I guess it depends on the area, but my thought would be, why not approach the local paper and ask to write a market report every month with your information prominently displayed, the cost is zero and you become known as the expert.
I even wrote for Colorado Golf magazine for several years, I did not get much business directly from it but a lot of nice referrals from agents that specialized in the areas i wrote about, and I got paid to write the articles.
The only print I will do this year is a Colorado Rockies Schedule and a Super Bowl 50 Champion Denver Broncos Schedule, they overlap nicely and most Colorado residents enjoy both teams, this will go to my neighborhood and my sphere and always garners a few calls.

I create a statistical report to my market area (1,300+ homes) every quarter delivered by a neighborhood young man. I also mail out just listed and just sold..very effective! I enjoy a commanding market share.

I just do the handwritten note and it has had a great return. The last time I sent one I got a call 4 days later as the couple rememebered their mom wanted to sell her property. Top of mind with a personal touch.

I went paperless about 10 years ago now, haven'd done a flyer, a mailer, a newspaper ad, or even a paper feature sheet in over a decade. It wasn't easy but it is sort of my thing.

I do a couple of magazines, but really just for branding purposes. It has 6 issues a year and I do an annual boating magazine and outdoor life magazine. I also do direct mail and feel that's very effective for getting listings.

I do magazine advertising. I also sent Christmas cards. I prepare a market analysis monthly and have them hand delivered or sometimes deliver them myself. The market analysis is working. The magazine is distributed to my hotel. Buyer's like the magazine. They are amazed at the good buys in Branson.

My office runs a weekly ad in the local shopper paper. There's a real estate section and most of the offices advertise there. If you don't have a presence then everyone will think you are gone. We get a lot of calls off of this ad.

I print feature sheets and brochures for my properties and send some postcards out into neighborhoods. I don't advertise in homes magazines or the newspapers unless it is an open house and the company pays for open house ads.

We have a monthly Home Market magazine that I place an add in because if you do you get free open house ads in the paper for the month. Aside from that I advertise in "The Lutheran" magazine.

Working could mean brand awareness. Not sure how to measure.
Working could means a click but no conversion.
Working could mean a buyer or seller raised their hand.
Working could mean a transaction completed.
Two print marketing scenarios are consistently successful in getting hands raised. Event based marketing and advertorials.

Post cards are still where it is at, Just Listed, Listings in the neighborhood you target.... I do not do as much as I used to but it still works...
146,555
just listed, just sold postcards...some, but very little immediate response. cards have an identifier, so I get an email when someone enters the code to view online. difficult to measure the long term success, but the occasional short term results seem to justify the expense (barely).

We do quarterly mailings to our database and we send out calendar magnets. This is just one of the many ways we stay in front of our people.
We don't do any print marketing trying to farm an area or to neighborhoods.
2,241,560
We produce 4000 brochures at a time and use them a slew of ways. Print is not dead, just used differently in the marketing mix. Folks grab them to go from local restaurants, motels when they are up here on their "two nation vacation. Jeff Dowler CRS . Interested to see other applications of real estate ink print put into action in the property listing peddling trenches.

I just started doing Just Listed/Sold cards. Hopefully, it will work. I don't think newspaper ads work here.

Printed property brochures for my listings. Postcards. Newspaper ads.
It's definitely hit or miss and would like to be able to better know what(when, why and how, also) is working versus not.

Generally we do not do any print marketing, but every few years we send out a few postcards to support a growth spurt that is required when adding new staff.

Just listed , just sold to my geo farm, seems to work but not overwhelmingly successful.

I'm in a referal directory, so far issue one just went out so no idea on ROI yet. Other than that, I'll door knock around listings, that doesn't cost much and gets my name out there (primary purpose).
