I am probably wrong, but I think the original intent was to increase word count and activity for the search engines.

I didn't know you could get points that way. Hehehe. I comment on others comments, but I didn't think that got points.

I did not know i would get comments for commenting on my blogs. I do know that is always best and a great way to interact by commenting on every comment that someone left, so it could encourage this which would be good Roy Kelley

The logic is that points are an inexhaustible resource.
They should be awarded generously in response to every character a participant types.

I guess it is so that we will acknowledge the comments. There are some who do not reciprocate comments .

Good morning Roy. I don't comment on my own blogs, a decision I made a long time ago.

I usually do not comment, unless it is a new information. I rather comment on comments ( no rewards for that).

What is the logic for removing points for likes on comments?

If you want to tag someone, you have to comment on your own post. Doing the short comment answer and tagging won't get the message through to the member.

I had no idea. I usually just use the short comment feature on mine.

It still maxes out daily after 50 total comments, so not sure that commenting on our own posts really has a significant impact on point totals.

Not sure. I don't pay much attention to the point system. I suppose it could encourage peope to acknowledge comments and communicate with other members.

I think that awarding points for comments you make on your own blogs increases conversation. Because you are usually responding to someone elses comment That may be the goal. This isn't a problem for me.

Can't say I have given it much thought. But not sure of the logic, bow that you ask

I'm not sure. The old way was that you just got points for the 1st comment you left on your post.
But honestly, this doesn't bother me.
